Shrek's armed camping trip 2015 ;)

Cheap toyota??? Unicorns do exist! I'm sure its plenty capable for what you will be doing especially if it has decent tires. That Tundra took a beating - hauling 7 horses up and over many mountain passes, 4 wheel trails barely suitable for jeeps, and cross country trips in crap weather. Its demise was a soft shoulder in Kansas during a deer hunt - barrel rolled it once but it landed back on the wheels and we even drove it back to camp albeit there was a bit of tire rub - hehe.

On the other hand I had one of those Rangers too and the amount of abuse that thing took and kept on going was impressive. Looked like hell when I was done with it but my old man is still driving it to work everyday.

Good luck on your hunt - I head out Friday morning myself.

Just realized between elk in Kansas, kids tv shows and vehicles - we have derailed your thread pretty good. Get to hunting so we have something else to talk about - ha!

"Legendary" ha ha. The only legend at the table was the swamp dweller. I thought he'd at least have a green hue about him but no such thing. Btw Shrek is very tall, exposing my runtness. Good to meet you David and have a good western hunt. Gotta admire a guy who'll drive from Florida to hunt out here.

All things are relative bbrown . $6000 for 108,000 mile 4x4 Toyota was cheap compared to $8000 for a 260,000 mile 2002 Tacoma. It was ridiculous what they are asking for 12 to 15 year old pickups with high mileage. I saw one two wheel drive Tacoma with 310,000 they were asking $10,000 for. Really ?!

Derailed? 11 pages and there's not even any tracks for this train lol. It is definitely one of the more fun threads I've seen in awhile and will get more so once he starts knocking some critters over.

Yeah guys , if you would talk about it while riding out to hunt then it will fly on this thread. Oh , the radio decided to work for an hour or so yesterday....while I was cutting through the Bridgers. No signal what so ever !

Does anyone know if First Lite has a storefront in Ketchum ? I've decided to run up through there and see the sights.

I was on their website when you asked. Shows they have a dealer right there in Ketchum

Robby. It was a pleasure to be able to meet you. I need to pick up you book and read it.
Not to derail the thread but does this book come with plenty of pictures?
I'm ydselcis and find it easier to look at pictures than read words.
Where did I put that new copy of Penthouse? :)

Thanks guys. I called them and I think I'm going to stop and say hi. Btw , don't try to cut across southern Idaho on an empty fuel tank. Long way between gas stations ! 17.43 mpg on the last tank full ! Sweet !

You could add all those prices together and give it to me in cash and you'd still have a tough time prying the keys out of my hands for my 1989 Toyota 4x4 xtracab. They are great vehicles. But a lot of the newer ones weren't even meant to go off the pavement, let alone have chains on them. I have both sets of chains in the truck for this weekends 1st rifle hunt for my daughter, but hopefully I won't need them. Only reason I'm taking them is my tires are on their last legs.......not quite slicks, but close.

"No more 40mph trips with snotcicles hanging from my nose !"

Sounds like the days of taking the '46 topless Willy's up the mountain every year. Top speed of 40mph, but could go anywhere with all the wheels chained up.

I assume you're through ID Falls already? Should be elk hunting but stabbed myself in the leg skinning my deer so I'm laid up in town tonight.
Would like to meet the Shrek on one of his legendary adventures sometime:-)

Weaver , I'm long gone but I would have enjoyed meeting. I drove up through Hailey and Ketchum today and briefly stopped at the First Lite office . Nice folks but it's just an office so there wasn't too much to see. Hailey and Ketchum are god awful pretentious places. Couldn't count all the BMW , Lexus , Mercedes , Lincoln , and Cadillac suvs and Toyota prius , and Subaru. Lots of contractors in big pickups too. Place is crammed with rich transplants running from the disaster areas like PDR of California. They're turning the area into what they ran away from as fast as possible.
Past there I ran up through the Sawtooth valley and then up and over to Boise. It's an incredibly beautiful area but I didn't get to look at it as near as much as I would have liked due to the switch back road. It will wear you out. Stopped and talked with mtrunner and checked out his 6.5 saum. His is nicer than mine ! Great guy who I hope to get a chance to shoot with one of these days. Trip through the sun valley and the Sawtooth valley over to Boise took much longer than I thought it would and the visit with mtrunner took some time and I hated to break away. Made it to Riggins? I think. Funny thing is I was pushing hard thinking it was Thursday and I needed tobe setting up camp tomorrow. Time is already beginning to slip :)

Shrek met up with me in Horseshoe Bend on his way through. He actually went out of his way to meet up with me as he was originally going to meet me in Carey. Great guy and I wish him well on his hunting adventures and yes, my saum is prettier than his.:) However, I think he's got it dialed and the animals may be in trouble. Drive safe Shrek, shoot straight and have fun-----it was a pleasure meeting you.

Randy

Shrek, if you fill tags and have time, we just had a really good day salmon fishing a river about 45 minutes from us. Catching 7 to 19 lb salmon on flies is pretty fun!
