Shoutout to the Rokslide Moose Community

Great bull. Good on you for getting through all the logistics and figuring it out.

Very nice bull, congrats! I went in 23, AK moose hunting is awesome definitely want to go again.

Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Nice work, sir! I appreciated your mention of "common sense" when talking about your hunt...and you took a really great bull doing it. I'm sure your dad appreciated being part of the adventure with you...memory for a life-time for both of you. Congratulations!

Awesome looking bull!!
Accomplishing all of that impressive!

Any tips for a a first time caller heading up this fall? I've watched some YouTube and read what I can here, but calling is worrying me a little bit - probably just fear of the unknown. Both my buddy and I have some experience, but moose calling is new.

I saw the bull I shot about a mile away crossing a slough. I busted ass and headed that direction with nothing but my rifle and moose magnet in hand. I got down there and could not locate the bull. I let out two “I’m guessing very poorly sounding” cow cows and about 5 minutes later here he comes. He comes staggering through the willows, grunting the entire way in. That was the last grunt he made.

What I’m trying to say is that I honestly don’t know how much it matters how you sound. Practice all summer and you will be plenty good enough to call in a bull. Not all bulls will react this way so don’t get discouraged if they don’t come in. Keep after it and you will find one that does!

Man that's unreal!!

I keep hearing that you don't have to sound real, but you're right, it only takes one to respond. Any legal bull is a trophy!

What a bull! Congratulations! Did you see any predators (e.g. grizzlies)? What did you have for protection on you and around camp?

Only saw one grizzly the whole time and he didn’t cause any issues.

I had a 45 with me along with a can of bear spray at all times.

I used a bear fence from Eagle Safety Solutions around the camp. No idea if it would have kept a bear out but I took a tester and it seemed to always be working so that was reassuring at night.

Thats almost exactly how my hunt this past year went.
