I don't have a scale but here is a link to their newer stuff

Not to bust your balls but a funny story. I had a 14lb gun that I thought was "too heavy" for an upcoming mountain muley hunt
I complained about it to a SF military buddy saying my desired hunting build turned in to a bench gun and I needed something else

He replied more or less with "I weigh 160 pounds, weigh 260 with all my gear and carry a 25lb saw humping the mountains daily, f&$# your 14 lb gun"

Needless to say I no longer share my weak civilian thoughts with him
Getting called a pussy by a SF dude isn't that humiliating.

There’s a NULA in 300 win mag on gunbroker

Edit: it sold at 3:00 today

I was just looking it up. First I had to look up what NULA was. So that tells you I’m new to ultralight quest.

I’ve only ever owned and hunted with one rifle. A t/c compass in 300WM. It’s a 1.25MOA killer all day but it’s pretty heavy.

This will be my first lightweight setup.

I have a Sako 85 Finnlight 300wsm. Weighs 6.4 lbs without glass. Have a Swaro Z5 3.6X18 that weight 16.4oz. The whole package will tip the scales at about 8lbs all in.

The only part it fails is the shoulder bustin' part. I had a APA micro bastard brake installed and blasted to match the barrel. Its almost pleasant to shoot!

I don’t recall all the chamber options on a kimber Hunter. But I had a 280ackley that was 5lbs 4oz after I removed the goo from the stock and stuffed grocery bags in there to deaden the hollow sound.

How about a Tikka Superlite? Overall cartridge length is restricted but they now come with a 1:10” twist.

You don’t gotta break the bank for a lightweight mt rifle.
I’ve got a Tikka superlite 300wm topped w/ dnz mount and a 3.5-10 vxiii cds. The whole thing weighs 7.4 w/3 in the mag.
I shoot all kinds of stuff in a alaska with it. I shoot 1/2 moa w/180AB and I’m money out to 700

The superlite makes the list. Thanks for all the ideas. I’ve got some reading to do.

not to change subjects too much but I find great value in being able to stay in the scope or at least return to target relatively easy. To do that it could be a lower recoil round/heavier setup or getting used to shooting in a lower magnification. Regardless it helps out a lot when hunting solo or needing follow up shots if you can keep an animal in the scope. At the end of the day we shouldn't be missing, but something to consider when weighing options in the light weight setups

Great factor to remember. I was fortunate to have a shot on a beautiful bull this year. My first shot was just a touch high and I knew it when I tripped trigger. My current rifle is 12.5lbs with a little fat bastard brake and I keep sight picture easily so the follow up shot was quick and easy to place exactly where I wanted it. Two shots and I had my first trophy bull ever.

I think the follow up shot is essential.

I did a LOT of hiking this year and I found just taking my jet boil out of my pack made a big difference in the mountains. That’s what got me excited about a lighter rifle. I found that 3 or 4 lbs reduction made a MAJOR difference in my energy and ambition to climb another ridge or stay at my elevation.

I have a 300 Norma Imp. that weighs just under 10 lbs. with a fairly heavy 5.5-22x56 Nightforce scope. What I find with the lighter, heavy hitting magnum cartridges is that you really need to concentrate on your shooting form. If I just nonchalantly flop the gun down on the bipod and start shooting my groups are usually larger than if I pay close attention to how the gun is shouldered, bipod loaded, ect. I have pretty much the same build in 6.5 PRC and with the less recoil I don't need to worry about it near as much as the rifle doesn't recoil as much to throw the shot off.

My vote would be to keep the rifle weight reasonable and loose some weight in a different area.

Ok, I just checked out the NULA line, and I’m impressed. The $3500+ price tag is on the higher side, but it def meets the requirements for my post title.

Idk what the budget is but for 3400 you can have Rich Reiley at High Tech Customs build you whatever you want. Maybe a little cheaper if you skip a couple of his options. I have a 6lb, 4oz .340wby he built. He also built my 7mag at just under 7lbs

I had hca build my custom tikka 300. All carbon so it is pretty damn light. Idk what brake he put on it but it doesn't have recoil to the point that it hurts (I do have a higher tolerance). I will say it is snappy though and the barrel will still throw one here and there after a few shots if you keep shooting but I think that is most thin barreled rifles. Springfield is supposedly going to release some new calibers this winter so id hold out and see what they come out with. That rifle has had the best overall reviews and is 100% one of my next rifles.

Thats exactly what I did . 300wsm and added a carbon stock. I did have it all rigged out but didn't need to do all the rest and could've done it cheaper. Id say go tikka or grab a sako 85 finnlight

Yep looking up a lot of the ideas people are recommending here. The tikka is a tough option to beat for the budget.

Thanks for everyone’s ideas here. I’m reading everyone’s comments and learning a lot.
