Looking for the lightest meanest elk slaying rifle. Prefer 300WM but open to others.

Let me know if you’d sell your lightweight Setup. I’m targeting 8.5lbs with scope and tall bipod.

I have a MOA (custom rifle maker out of oregon) rifle in 300wm that I have not weighed but am willing to bet is that light. With my atlas bipod and NF NXS scope I bet it makes the cut.

My stepdad has a fierce with atlas and the NF NX8 that would also likely meet your weight requirements
Both guns are sub 1/2 moa

I don't have a scale but here is a link to their newer stuff

Not to bust your balls but a funny story. I had a 14lb gun that I thought was "too heavy" for an upcoming mountain muley hunt
I complained about it to a SF military buddy saying my desired hunting build turned in to a bench gun and I needed something else

He replied more or less with "I weigh 160 pounds, weigh 260 with all my gear and carry a 25lb saw humping the mountains daily, f&$# your 14 lb gun"

Needless to say I no longer share my weak civilian thoughts with him

Too true! Your buddy is right and I expect copious hazing from this post. I know people have strong opinions on this topic but I bolstered the courage to make the post and see what’s out there.

Have fun! Hopefully you can shoot your shoulder buster better than I could shoot mine! “You never feel the recoil when you’re shooting at an animal”. I call BS! At least with my super lite 300wm I could feel it and see it, always gave me a nice purple bruise to remember it!

Have a Browning Hells Canyon Speed in 300 RUM. One elk hunt under its belt. Can confirm effectiveness, it has a perfect record so far. 1 hunt 1 kill. Factory camo stock and bronze cerakote. Bronze factory rings can go with it but keeping scope. Has Timney trigger but can also sell with stock if you prefer.

You need a 6lb unloaded gun if you run a 28-30oz scope and an atlas tall, or a 6.5lb unloaded gun to run a lighter 20oz scope and an atlas tall.

Just to give you reference on what you need in weight of just the rifle. I have 3 built like that and lots of experience chasing weights.

I hope you find that for which you are looking. You're a good sport Alex; so, I'll play. I sold my 300 WM Kimber Ascent a long time ago. I decided having my wife hit me in the face with a cast iron skillet once a week was less painful than shooting 20 rounds out of that rifle once a week. Sure, I can only eat soup now; but, it is less painful.

You want a mean lightweight fire breathing dragon, then look at the new Weatherby Backcountry 2.0 in 30-378 or 300 weatherby. 99 grains of powder and a 200 grain pill would let you know you're holding onto something buttercup. $140 per box for 30-378 in Sportsman's but at least it's easier to find than .300 win mag right now. Look at the Bergara Premier Mountain 2.0. You can get a .300 win or 300 PRC in that lightweight.

I sold this earlier this year, but was the lightest weight one I’ve had. The rest are right at 10-11lbs which is my preference.
As far as custom, this with a lighter scope would get you around 8.5. Ti action, Ti brake, manners mcs-t CF, 26” proof barrel. 30 Nosler pushing 215 Berger 3,000 fps.
Best of luck in your search.
