Shorty 6 Creeds

I'm really wanting to rebarrel the Sig Cross to a 6 Creed.
I was using Chat GPT to compare specs. Velocities to a grand and drift between a 16 and 18". Seems pretty nill between the two.

Thinking a 16" would be great with my ultra 7. Especially making it easier for the kid to pack around.
I thought I heard the EXO guy using a 16".

Anyone else using a 16"? What powders and speeds are you using and getting?

Should be just fine for dealing dirt naps out to 5-600.

Sorry boys I should have scrolled down further to see another thread of the same topic.

No worries. Of course like any good Rokslide thread, you asked a question and I am going to answer with something completely different.

Have you also considered the 6 Dasher or 6 GT? If you reload, then in a short barrel you can get pretty similar speeds with a more efficient powder charge.
I did a little comparison in GRT and with a 16" barrel, using a Hornady 108 ELDM, and Varget. It was predicting just over 2700 fps from the 6 Creed when right near max pressure. For the 6GT, it was 30 fps slower with a powder charge that was 3.2 grains less. For the Dasher, it was about 80 fps slower, but the powder charge was a full 5.3 grains less.

Just something to noodle on. I am thinking that my next build will be a shorty 6 or 6.5 as well, which is why I was playing around.

I really have been looking at a GT as well. The pro to going to a creed is just to use my higher end 6.5 brass. But I'm not completely attached to it.

Probably with the 6.5 is the recoil sucks. I got the gun for my kids and they don't even like shooting it. Of course it's my own fault for loading to max

Do you hand load?

If you do there’s a whole nother bunch of 6mm cartridges that are near the same with less recoil, less wear and more barrel life.

That said if the velocity is needed, that’s what you need

Yep handloading. Why I'm thinking 6 GT. I can get Alpha Brass and no fire forming needed. Small rifle primers is another bonus some they're easy to find. Can also use cci small mags.
Basically it'd be a 500 and in gun but still might need to a little further.

I'd go 6 Arc even but that opens a can of worms with converting a bolt face and mags for that Sig. Same issue with going to UM.

Thinking the GT would work good in that Sig because it's supposed to feed really well and work off a 308 bolt and mags.

GT or Creed is the easy button.

You have more options than that.

Arc, br, bra, dasher, gt

If those get you 2000fps on target I don’t think you’re going to go wrong with one.

I love my Arc gasser.

Wonder what it'd take to convert the Sig Cross to Arc? Is there a way to shim the bolt head up like guys are doing to the tikkas? Then what magazines would I need? Think the Cross takes any AICS mag.

The Arc would be great because I'd use it as a trainer and not worry about barrel life too much.

Doesn't the Dasher sometimes have feeding issues?

BR variants (of which dasher is one) are short stubby cases and feed much better with dedicated Dasher/BR mags or standard AICS pattern with a mag kit. Not really any different than arc in that regard except they have more existing magazine infrastructure and dont require an uncommon bolt face dimension.

I agree that if your kids no likey 6.5 creed recoil, i'd step down further below 6 creed. ARC is getting pretty diminutive on a 16" barrel for my tastes.
