Looking for a lightweight and stubby 308 for a guide rifle. Stainless and threaded preferred. Kinda open to options. I have some good trade fodder on hand.

Thanks!

There's a tikka t3x 308 just posted for $700. Looks like a factory fluted barrel but I've seen them cut and threaded into the flutes with no issues. Could get that one and cut it short/thread for around $150. Or check out euro optic. They have some tikkas on sale. Not sure if they have a 308 though.

I don’t have it for sale but I went with a pure guiding rifle similar to what you are looking for. After a night out in the backcountry with my only firearm (J Frame 340 PD 357mag) left back at spike camp with my packer, I said I’d never do that again.

Was suppose to be just a short sit about 1/2mi from spike camp and turned into in all nighter. Client had the only rifle.

I wanted a super light bolt rifle and settled on a 308win and a Kimber Mtn Ascent I cut to 16.25” threaded to 1/2x28. Put a set of open sites on it and a quick detachable 1.5-5 VX3HD Leupold in Talley steel bases that I keep off the rifle and secured in my pack (I tested taking on and off with less than a 1/2moa change in POI).

Bare rifle with front site is 4lbs 12oz.

It’s quick handling, and with 168gr bullets I will use it for everything I’m guiding except brown bears.

that sounds just about right. Slick sounding setup for sure. 168s about 2500?

I think I was incorrect and that rifle maybe cerakoted and not blued like i believed initially: either way thanks for the heads up.

No problem. I've got a tikka 308 I chopped to 16" and put into a stocky's vg. It weighs 5lbs 8oz bare without scope. Just to give you an idea of a weight if you go that route. Kimber mentioned above sounds badass.
