I used to think this. Not sure I still don't...

But man, sometimes that 30 foot walk to the house when a project is being particularly frustrating is really nice. Shutting the door, locking up, and just walking away!

Instead you get a 8 ft walk from the shop bench back to your living room… yeah I still like the Barndo idea

Finished room in the basement. I call it my man room. Still have stuff in other places though, like some hunting clothes in my main/everyday closet, and gear in the garage.

That's why I say I'm not sure I don't!

But I didn't get the same satisfaction walking into the house from the garage as I do the shop.

A few of my friends and I are also the sort of people who will spend hours and hours figuring out how to make parts that aren't supposed to fit together at all, work well together. Lol

Plus it keeps the welding/breaker clean/paint/burnout fumes out of the house.

I have a 32x36 garage, that currently has 1 car in it. I have my work benches in there, safes, TV, a few heaters,... it's where I do all of my tinkering.

When we sold our house downstate a few years ago, it was packed full. I couldn't even get my car in there. We used to park 3 vehicles in there: my truck, wifes Suburban, and my Vette.

A few months ago, I had enough crap gone to park in there again, then my wife filled it with her crap!

there are ways to keep the fumes and stuff out of the house.
Double wall between the two sealed. mud room with door on each side to separate the house and shop.
i have a full set of plans that we are going to build if we move

Oh I know.

That's a pretty minor concern for me.

I love the idea. I just don't think it's perfect. No setup is.

That can be quite the hurdle.

My wife sometimes likes the idea, then me and my friends are doing burnouts and blaring music in the shop at 2am...

24x36 shop with 10’ ceiling and a fully sheeted, stand up attic space.
I wish I would have built it at least double the size, at the time it was cheap.

Garage, too small and over loaded with so much crap and the wife's car it is useless as a work place!

30x50 shop, unfinished basement, and spare bedroom. Could use more room.

I would build a nice heated shop immediately if there was room at my place. Its actually one of the reasons I want to move though I also want to be on some more acres.

Right now I use our 2 car garage, my wife does park in it but the rest of the space is mine. I also use a good chunk of our unfinished basement. Lots of storage for hunting and camping gear and a hand tool wood shop about the size of a single stall garage.

Assuming the next house I buy does not already have a sufficient shop the first order of business will be to put up one roughly the size of a 6 car garage (3 wide 2 deep). Maybe bigger to store the boat, tractor, and side by side or perhaps those in a separate building.

Several years ago I built a 30 by 40 shop for outdoor stuff and to house 2 vehicles. I keep most of my stuff out there but I also have a closet upstairs full of stuff.
