Shooting with a quiver attached

I have been shooting a recurve for a few years now but find I shoot much better without a quiver attached. I have tried to go back to keeping it attached but it’s just not the same. I shoot a 60” Toelke chinook. Biggest issue is the riser torques to the left (left handed bow) and then the string rotates more to the right towards my bow arm at release and I hit my arm with the string much more frequently. Anyone have any suggestions or advice for shooting with a quiver mounted to the bow. I have tried a selway and great northern quiver, own the gn now. Thanks.

I have a couple bows like that. If you want to shoot with a quiver on you will probably have to make adjustments with your grip (knuckles 45 degrees) and rotate your bow arm elbow out at the beginning of the draw.

Those are good fundamentals but some bows you really have to be on your game at each shot.

I would just run it without a bow quiver so it will be more forgiving in a hunting situation and figure out how you want to carry your arrows. I recommend a side quiver from Safari Tuff.

I feel like my selway improved the shot. Probably just the fact that adding some weight added stability.

I’m using an ILF, and even with the option of adding an offset bare bow weight to balance it out, I just haven’t actually felt a need. But, I’m not an expert shooter at all. Just barely getting to a point where I feel like I can start hunting with it.

Chinook is a light bow, and low mass riser, it makes sense you are having some balance issues.

I would try what GLB suggested, I got nothin.

had that issue with a Toelke whip… I won’t hunt without a bow quiver, so I rigged a counter weight with some electrical tape, plastic, and .44 wad cutters I had laying around.

Thanks everyone. Ya that makes sense with how light the chinook is. I’ll just keep using a hip quiver.

put a gunshy on it, get the mass weight up, problem solved. I had to add one to my pika, bow is too light even with micarta and take down system.

I clearly shoot better with a quiver attached. I too suspect it is the added mass.

+2 on the gunshy. I took the arms off for my r/d longbow but love it and have another set up normal on my recurve.

I got a new bow in the mail last week and I was shooting pretty decent but not as good as my old bow. Bow had a little had shock and seemed too light compared to what I was always used to shooting. Today my selway come in that i bought off of here! Slapped it on during my lunch break and the bow instantly shot better in my opinion. Just a little bit of weight and with rubber on the limbs it just felt so much better in my hands. I never take my quivers off and always shoot with a quiver full of arrows even shooting indoor 3d league and also in my basement. Amazes me with just a little bit put on a bow can do.
