Looking for recommendation for a good tripod for a child. Prefer something economical but sturdy and smooth. Bog Pod maybe?

Bog has worked well for us. Depends on the type of hunt though. The bog is 8lbs in the aluminum and the carbon only cuts a pound off that. I've still packed it on some youth elk and oryx hunts though.
It's great for whitetail hunting in ground blinds or ground setups. The wife is even willing to pack it on a ground whitetail hunt.
It meets your criteria of economical, sturdy and smooth...
I've grown to like it for shooting/sighting rifles and muzzy. I can get it nearly as steady without packing a folding table and sandbags to the woods.

Does the Bog Pod allow relatively smooth movement in the event an animal is moving or minor adjustments are needed? For example following a grazing black bear.

Definitely.
Larger movements like switching windows in a ground blind can be a pain cause you have to move the entire thing.
But it pivots up and down and swivels so anything in the general direction you're pointing isn't an issue to get and stay on.
Just make sure when setting it up to balance the rifle and adjust the tensions so it isn't too stiff and doesn't free fall. Also make sure the clamp is tight, cause if not the rifle can kick and move in the clamp.
