[mention]hereinaz [/mention]is being modest. I’d go pickup some bags from him at lswild.com. I have been using the backcountry hunter combo. They’re insanely light but work phenomenally. I have just been using a few 2x6s under the front bag. The rear bag is under filled so you can really manipulate and squeeze it like you’re supposed to.

I’ve tried these Caldwell bags and they work, but whatever fill you use will end up sucking somehow. Rice is ok but rots if wet, sand is just too heavy. Cat litter is ok but it tends to turn into a brick over time… spend the money on a decent set, you’ll use them forever.

I second that ,buy some quality bags from LS wild... And definitely stay away from a lead sled.

On the LS 2-5, can't remember if I ended up liking the standard fill or the "full" fill, I think I kept the full fill.

Looking at the Back Country Hunter Combo now. These seem to be designed more for actual in field/hunting use rather than shooting from a bench. But I can see how using the 2X6s could make it a good range setup also. Thank you for the suggestion. Do you use them for hunting as well as range use, or just the range?

I can envision that the front bag could potentially even be positioned over the rail on my tree stand and used that way.

They get used hunting and at the range. They are light enough for everything, including the back country, IMO. But, our 2-5 ultralight is another popular bag.

I put one bag on a board or ammo can for the front rest and use the other bag for the rear bag. I like to put my hand inside the “saddle” of the waxed mini for a rear bag. But, the “saddle” works great on the front as well.

That heavy front bag works fine. That little rear bag sucks.

You want something low filled, where you’re off hand controls the gun, but the low fulled bag or pliable item can fill the void as needed.

I’ve heard the importance of the low filled rear bag from others but also hearing from a lot of the same folks that using your bino harness when prone works too. I use my bino harness when hunting (very convenient to unclip a buckle and slide it under the stock) and use that crappy Caldwell hard rear bag at the range. Am I missing out??

I have that Caldwell bad/but cradle thing in your 2nd picture. I’ve sort of replaced the but cradle part with stuff like a Molinator and some stuff from LS Wild but the front Caldwell loves in my truck so any time I go to the range I’ve got it.

I use all kinds of rear rests when practicing. When sighting in guns and checking zero I like the low filled rear bag and heavy front bag combo.

For field practice I use bino harness a lot when shooting off pack or bipod. For my hunting, seated and kneeling shots are more common so I practice those more than prone shots.
