Shoot2Hunt University

What does Shoot2Hunt think about the sighter shot recommendation around 1 hour 20 minutes?

I was bumping along and then went "wait, what?"

I'm pretty sure i've heard Avery mention doing similar and IIRC pynch had a sheep hunt a few years back where he did it before shooting a sheep.

Beats sending one if you're not fully comfortable with what the wind is doing. The other question is if the wind is still doing what it was when its for keeps though. I think for most of us hacks, if it's that far we're probably getting a little far over our skis.

Don't know if anyone got video of the S2H bear.

Rumor has it, he'll be back for a bear defense course! 😆

I was to excited to take a video lol. That was the first bear I'd ever seen. Its also funny that your video says "Lil bear". If yall would have told me it was a 900 pound grizzly I would have believed it :ROFLMAO:

It was a 900 lb G bear! just didnt want you running off!
Nothing a lil 223 won't take care of!
😆

Question for @Formidilosus, or @Ryan Avery, or annybody else that has gone to the course, about guns brought to the course.

I know that the Rokslide/Shoot2Hunt “go to” is a 223 Tikka with a Maven and a Rokstock. But is a stockys VG acceptable alternative to the Rokstok or am I going to regret that?

As for the hunting rifles, you recommend bringing 1, but will I regret bringing 2? Specifically a 6CM Tikka in a XLR Chassis? And a custom 280AI? I would like to learn to shoot my main hunting rifles better so figured I’d ask if you can bring two.

I’m in the process of changing all of my Trijicons in MOA, to Mavens in MIL, so money is getting a little tight. So I’m trying to minimize what other changes I need to make prior to coming. Thanks in advance for the advise prior to coming.

My $.02 … VG stock will be fine, BUT you may end up ordering a RokStok after you use one (or you may not, ask @TimberHunter as I think he shot his OEM lights out at end of class).

Bring one hunting rifle, logistics (ammo, swapping, zeroing, velocity trying, etc.) of 2 are not worth it. And bring the Chassi 6CM … so you can decide if you really want to keep it. My XLR is now listed on RokSlide.

The VG is an excellent little stock.

I would only bring one hunting rifle. Having two would be a pain in the ass for both you and the instructors.

IMG_1626.jpeg(this should be my 10th post, I’ll have some nice toys for sale on the classifieds soon).
This is Marty the moose(some call him Seymour), I know he was mentioned multiple times in our slab sided ungulate conversations in class. Alce Alce Gigas, the largest member of the moose subspecies so obviously the largest of the deer family. I’ll do my best to convince airport staff I need to take some proper measurements when I see Marty again. But a rough guestimation would put him at roughly 15-17”? Through the vitals. My intention would be to hang a double sided plumb bob over the shoulder crease and measure string to string, unless someone has a more clever idea on how to accurately measure an airport moose chest cavity. I don’t think ide fit calipers that bit in my carry on.

Which airport is that?

You can bring two. Definitely the chassis one.

What brand(s) of .223 or 5.56 ammo do y'all recommend for a mini-RSS Tikka T3X with a 16.1" barrel and 1:10" twist?

I haven't had a chance to take it out shooting yet. I was going to buy several boxes of stuff that might work well and give it a try before I order a large amount of whatever works best. I expect it to shoot best with 62-grain ammo, but I saw that S2H recommends 69-grain or above (should still shoot well, in my experience). I am also going to try the AAC 77-grain OTMs I use in my AR.

I have seen Form's recommendations for ADI 55gr Blitzking, 69, and 77gr SMK. Are there any others?

Thank you.

About half of the giant 223 thread is all about ammo and customer loads. I’m sure you’ll find a lot of recommendations in there.
