Well… it didn’t take that long after all. I found a lightly used Tikka T3X .223 in stainless steel for $650. I will need to get the barrel cut down and threaded, but the first step in building the .223 RSS is done. The total price will be about the same as buying the already threaded 16” blued steel rifle.

Get a SWFA fixed 6 for it before they sell out. Just came back in stock today.

Curious what failed on the American. The magazines are not ideal but wondering what other flaws are present
In heavy use in adverse conditions the Ruger Americans both Gen 1 and Gen 2 that I’ve seen have incredible bolt binding issues combined with regular failure to feeds. I’ve also seen instances of impact shifts due to the barrel touching the stock when used not on a bench and more pressure applied to forend.

I’m sure Form will have a much more detailed explanation in what they saw.

Thanks for the heads up. I’m not in need at the moment but used my last 6x last week on a t1x.

Think I'll pick one up for $350 since it has the zero stop. Thanks for the heads up.

@Formidilosus , anything you might add to this? When they go down, what's failing?

I’ve only seen the one in a class- that one didn’t work at all. From what I’ve seen in general- trigger starts having issues, failures to feed are common, bolts get very sticky, etc. They are not a robust design from what I have seen.

I imagine that's a pretty sweet scope for that rig. Did it work out the way you hoped it would? I have a 6X on a 223 and it's pure magic.
It did. Years ago I used a 30moa rail for the 22lr and SWFA rings since I play with it some at longer distances. I used sports match on this one since I don’t plan on dialing all that much. Used a base screw that fit the top and made a make shift pin for the front ring too. Seems pretty solid.

I also have a T1X with a 6x. It’s perfect. Wide FOV makes it easy to find targets when they’re close but MQ reticle lets you practice with it in place of a larger rifle. I haven’t dialed it much beyond 50 but hope to stretch its legs later this year. With a suppressor and subsonic ammo it’s Hollywood quiet and a joy to shoot!

Edit to add: I bought a 20 MOA rail and use warne rings. Not the lightest option but I like it a lot. Mimics my hunting rifles in a good way.

I have some in 22 and 17hmr and the kids love them. I was just curious if the wood version was an upgrade. I like the idea of setting up the t1x and t3’s with the rokstok. Will see how it goes with the girls once I can get a rokstok. Thinking the regular lop would be close for my oldest. She’s shooting a 223 in a ctr take off now and doing fine. The stocky vg on the mini works well too. I wouldn’t argue if someone said they were a little bit big for her but if she can manage with them maybe she can manage with the rokstock without spacers. The way they grow I hate to go cutting on one.

Jay just posted a fantastic recap/review of the course. Seriously was looking forward to his take, as he is such an analytical guy that is able to articulate things so well. He’s also a flawed human like all of us, but is able to own this and using it to provide valuable insight into human nature and grow from these things.

What does Shoot2Hunt think about the sighter shot recommendation around 1 hour 20 minutes?

I was bumping along and then went "wait, what?"
