Shipping a rifle

I always take the barreled action out of the stock, shipping all the parts together, well wrapped , making the package smaller so it doesn't scream "rifle" to all that handle it.

simple solution if you know the person on the other end, if it's a bolt action, pull the bolt and ship it separately, you are then technically shipping "gun parts"

That is not true and if done could result in a felony for the shipper if caught. The receiver has a serial number and that has to be shipped to a FFL if shipping over a state line.

As long as it is a long gun and not a pistol you have no legal requirement to let anyone know what it is. Take it in packaged up, get insurance and always make sure to get signature required delivery so the delivery guy doesnt leave it laying on the doorstep of the ffl holder.
I made the mistake of saying what it was, so they wanted to look. Ended up not having to because the guy who ran the office knows my father. I was certainly not going to argue, had nothing to hide.
