A fix back east
I agree with those above that suggest a two tent approach.

Then I would opt for a Seek Outside Cimmaron for true hike in backcountry hunts. Kinda the best of both worlds. If have found that if you try to make one shelter do it all it does nothing well.
This is where I think I'm headed as well. A canvas tent with a stove jack for canoe and truck base camps and cimmaron for packing out.

Another place to look for canvas on a budget is ebay and vintage 70s tents.

I agree with what others are saying as the 2 tent option. I have an 8 man tipi and while it is good for longer trips with 3 guys or so it is still heavy compared to other options for just 2 guys. A good wall tent or outfitter style tent with a good stove is what I would recommend for truck camping.

If 2 tents isn't an option financially the 8 man will do just about everything you need it to. It just isn't the best option when you have a truck right next to your camp to haul all your stuff to camp. Lightweight stoves don't have the burn time a 70 lb outfitter style stove will.

My ideal shelter setup would be a 12x16 or 12x18 wall tent. A 8 man tipi, a pyramid style 2 man shelter, and a 2-3 person backpacking 2 wall shelter. I'm halfway there but god its a lot of money! Haha

Seek Outside should be releasing their new 2 pole shelter next week, no idea what the cost will be or even the capacity for that matter, but it sounds like it may be a good option for you as well.

I agree two tents if you can swing it but for some reason tents seem addicting!! They just keep multiplying but I enjoy mine.
