Whats the general process you guys use to find sheds? Ive never gone but I would like too. Seems fun and a good way to stay in shape.
I would imagine the first step is knowing where they winter. So I went and did a scouting trip yesterday and I was able to find three areas that had deer. 1st appeared to be all does then two canyons over more does and a group of five bucks with their antlers still. Two more canyons over more does. Next do I wait a few weeks till they drop or should I go walk that second area next weekend and see what turns up. Do I walk that whole mountain range at the elevation that I saw them at and see what I find? How do you handle possible animal encounters while doing it? Do you bump them, wait for them to leave then look around? It is their wintering area and Im not interested in pushing / stressing them out. Do you find most sheds in open areas or in the cover where the hit a tree branch and fell off.
For reference I am in a desert state with lots of sage and small juniper patches.
