A pretty decent earthquake just hit us here in Delta. It was the rolling, long lasting type.

Our male Rottweiler, Bodie, noticed it about 10 seconds before it was obvious to me. He came over to me and leaned against my legs
and gave me a concerned look!1

Does the ground move a lot in Alaska? Or pretty rare

And now the funny part, with the title I thought there were striper on delta airlines. Lol

Yeah apparently eagle river bridge damaged, main highway at eklutna north bound is closed, Peters creek exit is closed due to sink hole apparently.

That's going to hurt!!
About half of the MatSu valley commutes to Anch!!

Considerable damage according to preliminary reports. Mostly in Anchorage and Wasilla.

My niece on Mercer Island [Seattle] felt it.

That's wild! When you think of earthquakes you usually think of California! I was in Nebraska a couple weeks ago and they had a minor tremor. It sure is a weird feeling!

My buddy just txt me from Anchorage - Evac in place due to tsunami warnings - major damage in ANC

Yea my sister works in Anchorage, she said it was a bad one and they just sent everyone home. Prayers out to all in the area.

Preliminary 7.0

I'm up there 4x per year, most recently 2 weeks ago. Know lots of people need to check on.

Alaska has the majority of N. American earthquakes and is one of the most seismically active areas of the world. A 7.0 isn't much of a surprise, or even very unusual. This one happens to be bad because it's right under the most populated area of the state, and Anchorage (very near where it is centered) is built on some pretty poor ground.

For those of you familiar with Anchorage, International overpass at Minnesota is down, multiple damaged overpasses.

No, they had a massive recall at work so I was able to get out of there and go check on my family but I’m stuck on the highway right now. My family is all OK but our house is pretty messed up from what I understand, no power, gas has been shut off because there was a leak, etc. etc.

A video from near there showed a big section of road buckled leaving a hole
big enough to swallow a car.

Looks really bad for a 7.0. Must have been shallow And lasted a long time.

I hope everyone rode it out and are well.

This one looked scarey!

Thanks for sharing.

And damn. That is some significant road damage. And just going into winter which will make repairs that much more of a challenge.

Apparently my boy was jumping on the bed and yelling “earthshake” whole momma was panicked. Goof ball.

So far we have power, no gas leaks that I can smell, so far.
