Any idea on the size of that pocket? Larger or smaller than access bag?

I’ve never had the Access bag so I am not sure. I believe the pocket is 22” tall but I’d recommend calling them to be certain.

Ive run both bags and like them both alot. I really like a compact, sleek pack and hate big packs compressed down but the 5900 does this unbelievably well. I went back and forth between the Solo with a lid and access bag and the 5900 and am glad I got the 5900. The back pocket is great and I find I rarely have to get into the main bag when Im in day mode.

Don’t forget that the Serac will fit on the Solo just like the Access bag.

And on a side note, in case anyone important is listening, sure would like to see the three color options all across the pack line : )

As mentioned the front pocket is super handy on the 5900. Between that and the small side pockets (on the bag, don't have the belt pockets), I never needed to get into the main bag during the day this year. I also never needed the lid and didn't bring it.

I was going back and forth between solo and 5900 and I'm glad I went with the 5900.

Anybody else going the other way, eg better to have less pack than more? I find myself drawn to that idea more and more... Which is why I cant get the solo out of my damn head... Lol

for certain things sure. If Im headed out for a weekend or a long weekend hunt, yeah, the Solo would be just fine. It wouldnt be my pick for a 2 week trip.

Yeah I get that. I mean, I have read that with the use of the load cell dry bag for food storage this thing can go longer. I havent tried that yet with my Tahr. The lack of zipper access on the Tahr is not awesome, which is why I am going a different way.

If you think you are ever going to do anything longer than 3 days I would get the 5900. I know all the pack companies say that the big bags compress well but my 5900 is the only one I have tried that actually did without being floppy, strappy, and a pain to get into. I dont like to have to relyon the load shelf space to get my gear in just in the event that you killed early in the hunt; then you have the load shelf full of gear and no room for meat and potentially created more tips due to lack of space. I will say this, I have owned 4 different Kifaru bags and the Solo and 5900 are both far and away better bags IMO.

I have the R3 (same as the Solo 3300) and I would recommend the 5900. The bigger pack will allow more flexibility with longer trips while they both cinch down to about the same size with nothing in them. I plan on buying a 5900 for camping trips while the R3 works well for day hunts and single nighters.

Since this in text format and there is no context, Im going to assume you are being sarcastic right?
It's an honest question. I really like my Kifaru packs. I wish they were less strappy. I still support the company.

I like their frames as well, Ive owned 3 frames and 4 bags and yes their big bags can be strappy when you compress them.

Here's a picture of my Solo 3300 and the Serac riding on back. I just received this pack today, my first SG pack, so I can't speak of how well this is going to work. My camping gear is very lightweight so the Solo 3300 + Serac will fit everything I need it to for a week. I like having the ability to use the Serac as a day pack, which you couldn't do with the Access bag.

The 5900 also has the small, open top, water bottle type pockets on each side while the Solo doesnt.

Does a Nalgene actually fit in these pockets? From the pics on their website it looks like the pockets are too shallow but some pics on this thread got me wondering?

You can fit a Nalgene in the pocket I believe, but it's going to want to pop out of there really easy. I also tried it on the new Sky Guided 7900 and it definitely fits into those pockets safely, but you almost need to dislocate your shoulder to get it in and out. I had one made to fit onto the hip belt by a guy on here and it works great.
