Sevr mechanical broadheads

I haven't had favorable results from those heads in the 2.0 or 2.1 version.
I say favorable, I got dead deer, but penetration/exit didn't align with Experience from other mechanical heads.

1.5 you will be fine, but at that point, it's hard to not just use a good fixed blade.

380 gr you can get good performance from a mechanical, just don't use one that has deployment tabs covering 1/3 of the cutting edge.
You also shoot 100 grain arrows, so…

I have shown this photo here before, so excuse me if you have seen it. Exit side of a pass through. Sevr 1.5, 66 # bow and 27”draw, TAW 428; 270fps. I have not used any other mechanical to compare it to, but it worked as well as any of the fixed blade heads I have used over many years.

Ive killed a few deer...6 or 7.. with the 1.7 Sevr. It worked pretty good, great penetration. My only issue was the blood trails seemed to be weak, even with "perfect" shots. Deer were all dead withing 100 yds...other than one we found the next day a few hundred yards away. (that was my fault, not a great shot.). They fly great and I love that you can lock them closed for practice and hunt with that same head. I'd like to try the new hybrid. But again..blood trails were my biggest concern. Dull blades I am thinking was the issue with that.

I carry a couple sevr in my quiver. I’ve killed 3 bulls with them and was a part of another debacle. Sevr do not penetrate bone in my experience. Even with 80lb 570gr setups.

I’ve killed a lot of stuff with the 2.0s including multiple bull elk and always gotten good results. My only less than optimal result was on a bull that was quartering towards hard. Not really the broadheads fault though, I thought I nocked the arrow with an IW on, I wouldn’t have taken the shot with the sevr had I known. Still ended up with a dead elk, but was quite the tracking job. I now use different color fletchings to easily see between solids, mechanical, and grouse heads.

I am rethinking a little this year because I’m going from 80lbs/30”/515g set up to 72lbs/30”/435g, still have some time to tinker.

I should have stated above that I sharpened the blades myself to get this result. The stock blades were not sharp enough for me.

At 380fr TAW, 60lbs and 27.5”, I’d probably shoot a rear deploying head for the extra penetration. The G5 dead meat is awesome for penetration, I’ve shot several through elk and my son shooting a 400gr arrow, 28” draw and just under 50lbs shot one through a 4 point mule deer.

With that being said I’m a huge advocate of expandables and have put several 2” cut heads through mature bulls at long ranges. I’m shooting a 70lb bow at 27.5”. I’ve posted quite a few pics in other mechanical posts.

I shot fixed heads before, like Grim Reaper Hades and QAD Exodus and had good results but I hunt Arizona and Idaho and past 70 yards the fixed weren't grouping with my field points. So I decided to try a mechanical and started with one of the 3 blade Grim reapers and liked it but then tried a SEVR and will never go back!

I’m 27.5” and have shot 60-73lbs with various bows and 400-450 grain arrows. 27” draw is right on the line for where mechanicals excel or start to suck for deer.

Mechanicals will work for you but penetration will be lacking on some shots (quartering or when solid bone is hit) and I would not expect full pass throughs on mature bucks with a 2” cut consistently (blood trails not great without the offside lower exit hole). That said I still shoot them!

Shot this 200lb + boar Friday evening. He was dead in 20 but rolled another 20yds down the hill.

Complete pass through with the 2.0, broke a rib on entrance. 470gr 73.6 lb and 30" draw
