Blast from the past!
Well, hunt ended up going well.
The ranch had a 60# “minimum for buffalo along with some other rules, and I had to qualify in front of the staff by hitting a pie plate 3 times at 30 yards, so I ended up just taking the compound.
I could have killed mine with the recurve, we chased a herd around for several hours before we pulled off and went to another area of the ranch, ended up running into a small band of them a few miles away and got out, was able to stalk into them and got a 20 yard shot one. First shot blew right thru him ( 433 grain arrow with a 100 grain kudu point @ 290 fps) and although it wasn’t necessary, I shot him again, with this arrow passing thru him as well.
He stayed on his feet for about a minute before getting wobbly and when he layed down the other buffalo started goring him. We had to run back and get the truck and run them off of him using the truck.
We killed two more over the next few days, one with a rifle and one with a bow. Bow shot ended up being a liver hit, we saw him bed down but it took him forever to die.
