Setting up TiGoat vertex 6.5

I have a tigiat vertex 6.5 and I feel like I should be able to get the walls more tight. Any ideas? I set it up in the yard to see if I could get it better, but it is especially bad on a slope or deep snow. Any tips would be appreciated

I don’t have a TiGoat, but do have a couple other teepees. With the ones I have, I have found that I need to not pull the bottom edge too tight (outward) before putting the pole in. Bottom edge circumference should be little more loose (think smaller diameter) than a person would think. I have found this to help with getting the walls shaped better, which leads to a tighter pitch. You may have to extend your pole more.

It does get tricky to pitch on uneven ground (including snow). Pitching so that the pole is perpendicular to the ground (leaning downhill) can help. Having longer cords on your tie out points is also very helpful.

Slopes and those stake loop extensions make it extra difficult. Try using the stock stake loops to get the hang of it.

I've found that stakes in the extensions need to be about the same diameter as the stock loops. Extensions help with height but make pitching more fussy.

I can never get the pitch right on the first attempt. It always takes a little fiddling.

This homemade pole extension has been nice. Combined with the stake loop extensions it adds 5" to the peak height.



I'll try posting my 2-pole setup when I get a chance. No interior pole makes way more room.

2-pole setup. Poles are 1" conduit with 3/4" inserts in lower halves to fit into the upper halves, plus standard exterior conduit couplers, for strength. It's for tailgate camping, of course; too big and heavy for packing. I haven't had a chance to try it in the wind yet, but I'm confident it will hold.

One more tip: if you're on a slight hill, the pole needs to be perpendicular to the ground rather than vertical.

Try this:
Lay out on ground. Stake the stakes outs on either side of the zipper. Go to the opposite stake out from those, pull tight and then let is settle. move that stake out in 3.5' and stake it. Then skip one from the door zipper either way and stake those two.....set pole and go from there. I find my the 7.5 to be an e-z and straight forward set up and fully staked out it uses about 10 stakes less than my SO 4 man if it is fully staked out.

I don't. I bought it used and have been unable to find a good video or instructions. That's a great pitch. Exactly what I'm after. Is that with the stock carbon fiber pole?

I feel if my center pole was taller I would get a better pitch, but wanted to see if I could figure it out with the carbon fiber pole I have before purchasing another. I feel like if I had a few hours in the day in the middle of summer I might be able to figure it out better, but I'm not sure.

I find an adjustable pole works well with all 3 of my floorless shelters because i vary the height for the pitch I need due to conditions. If you need more height that the pole you have offers you can use a piece of dimensional lumber or firewood for additional height. I usually use a small piece of 1x4 under the pole anyway and I only use adjustable aluminum poles which offer at least 6" more than the spec height.

Like said above, set it up with the pole not extended or barely, then once you have it all staked in extend the pole. If that doesn't do it all then you may go around and move stakes or tighten guy lines.
