Selling Used Suppressor in 2026?

Is this process easily explained?

Yeah it’s pretty simple.

Log in to your eForms account

Create a new eForm 4

Select individual transferring to FFL with or without SOT

Put in the info for the FFL/SOT your shipping too (you just need their FFL #/expiration and who to put as their CLEO notification)

Select your suppressor as the “firearm” (easiest way is to have your control # from when it was transferred to you and the serial #)

Submit the form.

When it’s approved print it out and put it and a copy of your drivers license in the box and ship it to the FFL/SOT you transferred it to.

That’s it. Both of the ones I did were approved in less than 24 hours.

Thanks man!

So for an out-of-state transfer (which I would need), it’s a Form 4 from me to my local dealer, the dealer then Form 3 it to the receiving dealer out of state, and then that dealer transfers it to the buyer?

No. You can Form 4 it direct to an out of state FFL/SOT. That’s what I’ve done successfully twice. No need to involve an FFL/SOT in your state, only the buyer’s.

Oh okay. A couple of the big suppressor retailers have articles describing transfers, and have it spelled out like I posted. Did that change when the stamp went to $0?

Not sure when it changed or if it’s always been that way.
Maybe it’s the same scenario as the difference between FFLs that only receive from other FFLs, vs those that are willing to receive from individuals?

No that is completely up to an FFL unless state law requires firearms entering their state to come from an FFL (Commifornia, likely a few others). Most others that won’t do it are leery of being stuck with a firearm if the transferee gets denied by NICS. The rest are just ignorant. There are plenty of ignorant FFLs out there. If you ever are in doubt look up your local field ATF office and ask them.

That’s what I meant. Maybe the reason there is conflicting information about whether you can or can’t do a Form 4 that way is strictly whether or not the receiving dealer wants to receive from private party. And after further research, that appears the case. I have no doubt you have done it successfully, just trying to double check everything

I just did it the exact way that Chris described too. Form 4 from me to an FFL/SOT who was out of state.
