I handled payment same through PayPal as I would any other sale. From there, you'll have to find an FFL that'll ship the weapon to the buyers preferred FFL, and they'll handle the paperwork with the buyer when they receive the gun. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that's how it all went. Super easy.

Probably best to find a local FFL that will ship them for you. Find out what they are going to charge for the service, but hen work that into your asking price.

PayPal isn't going to do any buyer protection on a firearm. Since you're new here going to be hard for you to sell them with a payment from PayPal. Atleast from me.

I have sent a postal money order before to people. Doubt it's much safer but it made me feel better as someone had to physically cash it that I should have record of.

If someone outs you to Paypal, your account gets cancelled. They have a no firearms or ammo policy. If someone challenges the sale (for any reason) after receiving the firearm, you're screwed. They will get every dime back.

Maybe adding in that I accepted PayPal was to much info. I knew the buyer, so there was no worries. Disregard my comment about PayPal. Accept form of payment you feel comfortable with.

I guess the rest of the explained process was correct? I was sure that I took PayPal for payment. It was the rest I wasnt 100% sure about

You can ship your rifles yourself once you have made the sale and received payment as long as you send the rifle to the buyers FFL with a copy of your drivers license and the FFL agrees to that. Some FFLs do not like to receive guns from private parties but that is not a law just a company policy that some of them have. I am an FFL and could care less. Best info for laws regarding selling and shipping firearms can be found on Gunbroker. PM me with what you have for sale.

I have sold and shipped firearms about a half dozen times. Long guns through USPS, handguns through a local FFL. I always ask for USPS money orders so I can verify they are legit before shipping. I always receive payment prior to shipping.

This but I have never found a local shipping place that would except it from me. Even if I print the law and there policy and show them. USPS always says they dont do it, and ups stores ar franchise and they wont even ship a scope.
No local FedEx.
I have to drive an hour to the UPS hub.
So if you dont have a hub,
ffl to ffl may be easier even if it not required.

I ship USPS or ups and accept check or MO. A private citizen can ship to free states with the receiving ffl paperwork inside and addressed to the ffl holder.

I've bought and sold a bunch. Its getting a bit more concerning, but I've had transactions that were several grand.

When it's big money I always get a phone number and bs with the buyer/seller and ask that some kind of off the wall picture be sent to me....an orange and a bottle of shampoo next to the rifle...etc. It's no guarantee, but it helps me feel better.....and I haven't been burned yet.

As long as it is a long gun you do not even have to tell USPS what is in the package. You box it and mail it like it is any other package as long as it is going to an FFL in another state.

(B8) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U. S. Postal Service?

A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own state or to a licensee in any state. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. A nonlicensee may not transfer any firearm to a nonlicensed resident of another state. The Postal Service recommends that longguns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms.

FedEx and UPS have to done through their main hubs, the off site stores do not count. I have had one issue at USPS. Told them it was a shotgun, was told no, manager came out and said yep, no problem. The counter clerk had no idea it was legal to ship a firearm. And as an aside, the FFL I used ships handguns through USPS. Private citizens cannot ship handguns through USPS, however.

What do you mean by this? If I sold a rifle and a buyer challenged the sale, you're saying he would get his money back from PP? If there is no money in my account, where would they get the money to refund him?

Negative Balance and then collections.

As a seller I set simple rules. Check or MO. If personal, 10 day waiting period to clear. Certified funds or MO, I ship the day I receive. Always ship insured to FFL.

When buying, I do what Wrench does, and talk with them, then get additional photos of the firearm. I haven't asked for off the wall, but I do ask for closeups that wouldn't normally be taken. Bolt face, top strap on a revolver, numbers matching parts, etc.

I haven't been hosed yet. In fact I have a double rifle on its way to me now.
