Selfbows are not for everybody, I think one needs to be a little off in the head to hunt with one. My wife says the rest of the world doesn’t think like me, guess that means I am more than a little off.

Here is the first critter taken with my selfbow Pigger.

I've taken 2 with stone points from trad bows but only killed one with a self bow. A little osage D bow that finished lighter than I wanted but still got it done. Cedar shafts and STOTS heads. This little doe was the first deer that gave me the under 15 I needed and I still hit her back in the liver. I still have that bow but unfortunately haven't hunted her since.

I just want to make it clear that I'm 100% pro selfbow despite the incident above. I saw a laminated longbow blow up in the vendor display area at a big shoot once. Prospective buyer simply gave it a test draw and it failed. Any bow can have an early death.

So did he buy one?

Love this thread!

I built my first selfbow a couple of years ago. Hunted last season with it and shot right over the back of a nice buck. Planned to hunt with it again this season, but it developed a crack at a pin knot that was probably too close to the edge of the limb. I plan to build another one to hunt with next season.
