seekins ph3 magazine

What magazine are you running in your seekins ph3? The carbon mag that came with my rifle appears to feed reliably but makes contact with the underside of the bolt causing a noise (carbon vs. steel) when operating. I reported the "issue" to seekins and they sent me an Amend2 mod2 AICS magazine. The Amend2 fails to feed requiring a tap/rack between each round....I reported this to seekins and haven't heard back. My rifle is chambered in 6CM.

Anyone have suggestions for reliable feeding out of their ph3?

The carbon mag works ok for me as far as feeding but kinda sticky trying to get in not a huge fan of that.

Anybody have issues with LA mags? Mine is pretty sticky and I have trouble getting 3 rounds to consistently load. I have 300wm and it’s my first belted cartridge and it seems very difficult to get the belts over one another. Also noted the follower routinely tips down at front letting cartridges tip and gets stuck in downward position. Maybe the CF mags make this worse? Any advice or anyone with same type issue?

I'm having the same issues with my 7prc. First 2 feeds fine and the last gets dragged forward and dips down and then lodges against the front of the magazine.

Testing the Apex Predator 3 and 4 round mags. First range session fed fine. Will update as more shooting occurs. To be fair, they show the same tendency to nose down when being loaded as factory Seekins mag. I think this has to do with the mag spring being biased toward the rear of the mag without much spring pressure against the front of the follower. This seems to be the case with both types of mags.

How are the Apex ones holding up? Seekins sent me another carbon magazine along with the amend 2. I haven't switched the bottom to allow the use of the Amend 2 so i just sanded my CF one. Now its worse. it still dips on the 3rd round. Looks like i'll be loading only 2 rounds per mag on my hunts.

Shot again with the 4 round 300 win mag a few days ago. Had one hang up on me out of about 20
Or so rounds fired. Same problem with nose down jamming into the front of the magazine. Rest fed smoothly. Have the 3 rounder as well but didn’t shoot from it this time. My gut feeling is this will continue to be an issue because the spring is biased so heavily toward the rear if the magazine. Not sure how they could address that but reliable magazines are a must. Hopefully someone will come up with a good workaround for the long actions like the ability to use AICS mags in the short action. Between this and the split pic rail for scope mounting (I understand it’s for weight savings, but still) they are my only real complaints about the rifle. Time will tell but I’m about 100 rounds in on this one and the magazines are definitely my biggest complaint without a good solution that I see for the long action.

Sounds like the Apex Predator is running pretty flawlessly for everyone, atleast based on the Seekins Facebook Group..

Seekins botched the mag situation on the PH3 roll out, ramping up rifle production beyond their carbon magazine production capacity. They switched to a third party to try and debottleneck their production process, but haven't found a reliable solution seemingly. Apex Predator seems to be it, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see Seekins contract with them..

Another range day. Another 25-30 rounds 300wm through the 4 round apex predator mag. I shoot these as five shot groups starting with a chambered round so im feeding the full mag each time. In this round of 5-6 full mag groups, i had one more mag that hung up with the same diagnosis of a round getting nosed down. This time it was the second from bottom round and caused the third round from the bottom to misfeed. This was with factory 200 grain terminal ascent loads. Will continue to monitor. Fwiw, ive ordered a bunch of mags from @pods8 on this forum for my tikkas. They are running flawlessly. I know this is not an apples to apples comparison but it does show that a third party small maker is able to produce a quality reliable product. Ive tried to convince him to make Seekins mags but he hasnt agreed yet. Overall, id say if there’s an issue that would make me get rid of my long action ph3, this would be it. A gun that won’t feed reliably isn’t very useful to me for hunting. The worst part is, I think this could be fixed by changing the spring to something with (more) upward pressure at the front end of the magazine but neither the Seekins factory or apex mags have this. Not sure why, but it feels like there is no spring underneath the front of the follower. In the second picture tried to show there is no spring beneath the front circled portion of the follower. Sorry doesn’t come through great but it’s very obvious in person.

Load the top most round with the belt forward of the belt of the middle round. Flaw of such a long magazine and the stupid belt.

Is this with carbon fiber magazine or the new amend 2 mags? I have no issues with the carbon fiber magazine.

So I just picked up an Apex Predator 5 round mag. They should partner with Seekins on the magazine. So far it feeds smooth with no follower tilt. Pictured below is the original Seekins 3 round mag after polishing and grinding. It still tilts and jams. If I use 2 rounds it works ok with a jam every now and then. This is with the 7 PRC. Upon inspection I noticed what MCGHeel said is correct. If there's more upward spring pressure towards the front and less biased towards the rear, it would feed fine. I'll be purchasing another Apex Predator in 3 or 4 round in a few weeks.

Thanks for the info. Maybe it's a PH3 thing with new bolt design. I haven't had that problem with my PH2s or element. I'm picking up a new discontinued 7 PRC PH2 on Tuesday. I'll post again after I try it.

Seekins is now to going to ship all rifles with Amend 2 mags. Customer service told me the proprietary carbon fiber mag was a bottle neck in production. Multiple people on Seekins Facebook forum refer to it as "cheap" but I have no experience with it.

Yes Vanessa at Seekins sent me the bottom metal to change it to the amend 2. I have 2 carbon mags and the first one had a hang up which made me just do an hour worth of cartridge pushes through the mag to loosen it up or smooth things out. I received another one....I always need 2 for back up purposes... And the second one I got was worse. Every single time the 3rd round jammed forward and down. Alternated the forward and rear positions, played with the spring position, polished and lubricated and nothing fixes it. Until now... which was another company's magazine. The amend 2 works fine after playing with it but the spring pressure is weak. I'm thinking about just selling my 2 carbon fiber mags and just use the 2 round holder on the side for follow ups.
