Seekins Hunter Chassis - Tikka Build

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a gun nerd, just someone who runs gear hard and gets after it. I recently purchased a Seekins Hunter Chassis for my T3X in 7RM. I’m upgrading after my previous stock cracked. The Seekins stock seems well made and durable. I’m very impressed by the hinge on the folding stock, it’s very stiff. The stock is not the lightest, but that’s ok because I find that my gun shoots better around 9 lbs.


I’m curious if others have built a hunting rig for their Tikka on this chassis. I’ve run into a few issues so far that I’ve wondered if anyone else has noticed:

1. I’ve had a really hard time finding magazines that will work with this set up. I currently have a 5rd MDT that fits, but it’s ridiculously loud and large. I’ve previously always shot the plastic Tikka 3rd mags and have never thought anything of it. Finding a mag that fits the specs on their website seems impossible.

2. I’ve had to order taller scope rings, even with the cheek rest slammed down all the way. This has never been an issue in the past.

I haven’t seen too much online on people building a Tikka around this chassis. Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

I have one (in that thread too). Shot it for the first time today. Besides making my magnum too light and it kicks like heck, I was impressed with it.

I modified a Hawkins Hunter mag (WSM) and it worked great. That said, I spoke with Hawkins at a recent hunting expo and there newest generation should work in tikkas they said (I don’t believe LA mags though).

As it sits, here is my build:



T3X 7RM w/ 22’’ barrel
Seekins Chassis
MDT Mountain bipod
Area 419 base w/ Seekins rings
SWFA 3-9x
Synth STM can
I live in MT and like to hunt the wilderness rifle units on foot, I’m hoping this chassis will make the long approaches more comfortable. Never used a chassis before. The gun is built for durability/repeatability in mind.

Shot it with the chassis the other day. Nothing really surprised/jumped out to me. After the first couple shots, I noticed some minor vibrations/tuning rod effect. I stopped noticing it after 6 rounds or so.

HAVE ANY TIKKA SHOOTERS HAD LUCK WITH ANY SORT OF 3 RD MAGS FOR THE LA CONFIGURATION IN THIS STOCK? I read through 11 pages on the other post and it seemed to only address SA. The magazine situation seems pretty tough. I reached out to seekins, they couldn’t point me to a single direction for a 3rd mag.
