Seekins havak element

How did it turn out?

Turned out as good as the situation could. I think I had the new rifle in hand in 10 days from my original phone call. Haven’t shot the rifle much with hunting seasons and life.

Never did hear exactly what they think caused the issue.

Everything checked over tight at the end of the day, nothing loose, nothing obvious. Nightforce was mounted pretty close to the bell and there is no signs of slipping. Unless the nightforce failed from 30 rounds of 308, which would be mind blowing. Suppressor has no signs of any kind of rubbing let alone any cap or baffle strike. Maybe its just a cursed setup and hates me despite throwing literal thousands at it.

I don't know that its fouling causing the issue, That's just the first thing my mind went to since it was all the same bullet and getting worse as more rounds were fired regardless of hot or cold barrel.

As for shooting setup, no lead sled or similar here, just some old caldwell bags to rest on and a good heavy stable bench and seat. One for front one for back and my shoulder providing the recoil absorption.
Any updates?

Seekins confirmed seeing similar performance to what I described. Swapped me out completely to another element. No explanation of what could be causing the issues provided. I didn't care to nag them for one.

I haven't taken the new one to the range. To be honest any desire I had for a seekins (bolt rifle at least, I still love my NX15) was killed by this. Its fate is uncertain beyond sitting in the safe right now. The nightforce was moved to a tack driving old remington 700 and has been rock solid.

Some day I might get the desire to pull it and see if it has any consistency to it or it may end up traded in somewhere for the next gee whiz manufacture I decide to throw money at trying.

For now I am just hoping the one off 280ai being built for me will cure the I haven't found the big game rifle that ticks all my boxes feeling that keeps me searching for the right one.

Even with the good sale prices on the elements I’m hesitant to buy one. Seems to be more issues with them by far compared to the ph2s. Same as the classifieds, there’s probably as many elements as ph2s & ca ridgelines combined.

I picked up a 7 PRC element a few weeks ago. Only have one box of Hornady precision hunter eldx down the barrel. A few rounds showed slight signs of excessive pressure (heavy bolt lift and ejector impressions). Not horrible but noticeable. Grouping was decent with the first batch although it was a little breezy out.

I messaged seekins and they responded by calling me immediately and offered to take the rifle in to look it over even though I’ve only tried one box. I’m going to try some federal premium before I go down that road, though. Hopefully can chalk it up to a crappy batch of ammo (which I’ve been seeing complaints of with the precision hunter in 7 PRC).
I don’t have a seekins but had the same issues with my ca ridgeline 7 prc & 175 eld-xs. Had two boxes of 160 LRX Barnes on hand & no issues. Gun really likes that setup,
I’m curious everyone’s thoughts on 6.5 CM in this rifle. I have a 7 PRC and don’t need a 6.5 PRC, so I’m thinking about CM. Given I don’t intend on shooting any deer sized game over 500 yards, I’m confident it will be fine.

Based on same data I saw for various barrel lengths it looks like 21” is about 2,650 with 143 grain bullet, so about 1,950 FPS at 500 yards and 1,240 ft-lb of energy.

Anyone have any practical experience with this setup?

Did you pick up a creed? I don’t need a 6.5 prc since I have a 7 prc but still have plenty of factory ammo from the 6.5 prc I sold. I’ve also considered getting a ph2 6 creed though. I just wish they offered the same carbon magazine for the 6 creed as the 6.5 prc.

I’ve got an element in 6.5 creed, it’s a good shooter. I don’t know if it’s my favorite gun but it’s accurate, fun to shoot.
Case in point though, You’ve got yours listed & you had a small issue with from what I remember. I will say most elements you see listed are from higher recoiling rifles. Not saying that’s why but a lot of recoil in a light gun will knock some fillings loose.

Oh that’s a given with even the best companies. From what little I’ve talked to Justin @ seekins I feel as though I’d be in good hands.

Yours is one of the few elements I’ve saw listed that isn’t a higher recoiling one.

12 rounds after making a couple adjustments with the replacement rifle. This rifle only has about 25-30 rounds on it. If anything weird happens I’ll post.

I just wish they offered the same carbon magazine for the 6 creed as the 6.5 prc.

I wouldn't want that in a 6 creed. The carbon mags also come with proprietary bottom metal that is not AICS compatible. I'd rather be able to use light 3 rd plastic AI pattern mags for hunting and 10/12 round AICS mags at the range in a 6 creed.
