@Josh Boyd , how tall are you?
I just got an LBO and my 6'4" bag touches the walls no matter which way I put it. I'm wondering how much room I'll have with the Silex.
Also, is there anyway I would be able to fit my SXL in it with me and does anybody know how much space there is between the poles?

I’m 5’7” and I’ve got lots of room. With Your height it might be a little tight. Maybe [mention]Kevin_t [/mention] can chime in as he’s on the taller side of the scale.

As far as fitting a SXL in there I don’t think it would fit. The firebox would be too close to the walls if not touching.

Nest is available as an add on. The screens would be on the nest.

I just posted a bunch of pictures and notes for tall folks another thread. Thread title is “Shelter Decision Help Me!”

Alright here are some photos. Let me know if you want to see another angle.
The distance between the two cones is about 48 inches.
The bag in the photos has 12 to 13 inches of loft and is about 6’8” long.
The pad is 3.75” high.
I figured out why this thing doesn’t photo worth a crap. Because of the zipperless design, when you open the door you still have a drape of fabric that blocks the view of the top by about 15 inches. That fact coupled with its geometry yields crap photos!

The fabric draping is a fairly easy fix. Just run something from under the apex to the top and it holds it up better. In addition , we have been working on a project that hopefully will allow people to put loops and tie backs on if they want or attach a bivy loops wherever .

Any chance you've used a Silvertip as well? Wondering how the amount of "sitting room" ie >36" compares with the Silex?
The sage green in the review with the PU mixed in, is there any downside to having PU mixed into the coating that you know of? Other than only one colour choice, which I'm not bothered by.

I called SO, but didn't really get an answer.

I went from and LBO to the Silex. I’m 6’2” so for me the Silex is more comfortable. The LBO definitely had more room but I also had things more spread out, so I was constantly crawling on my knees to reach things. Because the Silex uses two poles, you can pretty much lean to reach anywhere in the shelter.
It's really hard to explain how comfortable I feel in the Silex versus the much larger area of the LBO.

With all of that said, if I was under 6’ I’d have kept the LBO. The Silvertip would be another option, but the higher pole height of the LBO is much more appealing to me.

I agree. Ive had the silex for a while and haven't used a stove in it cause i only had the large u turn and it needs a tiny stove. Id say medium at the most. I just got the cub u turn stove and cant wait to try the combo out this year! Im 6' tall and i fit in it fine. My buddy and i both used it and it was a little tight, woke up with bottom of sleeping bag out of the tent cause we were on a slight slope but it worked lol

Long Term Update:
I just finished up season #2 with this shelter and can vouch for its long term durability. It's been through some very rough weather this year and I am very pleased with it's performance. The last trip out was cold with blowing and drifting snow. I noticed a small draft along the perimeter but nothing to worry about. The little Cub U-turn keeps everything toasty and mostly thawed. This has been a very versatile shelter!
