My wife and I spent a week there several years ago after visiting friends in Flagstaff. Beautiful area, and if your wife (or you?) is into shopping, crystals, new-age mysticism, shopping, or energy vortexes, you will be in heaven. Did I mention shopping?
I was not at all comfortable there. We did some fun hikes off the canyon north of town. Lots of mtb trails, even if you arent into biking it could be a worthy rental. Im not sure, but I bet theres good 4x4 roads in the area.

And climbing. Flag is a short drive up the road. Meteor Crater and Wupatki Natl Monument are both just outside flag. Williams isn't far and has the train. Not sure what the train schedule is. Jerome isn’t far away. Montezuma’s castle is under an hour away.

I live in AZ and have been there (and the general Verde Valley area a lot).

Kind of depends on what you're looking to do and how long you have there. If you want to just immerse yourself in beautiful scenery and relax, it's great for that. If you want to do a lot of hiking or mountain biking and visit creeks and water pools it's also good for that too.

Nearby points of interest include Jerome, AZ, an interesting old town, Montezuma's Castle, an impressive Indian ruin, Oak Creek Canyon, Sycamore Canyon, Fossil Creek, as well as the town of Flagstaff, which has an observatory, Walnut Canyon (a land island Indian fortress), lava tube, meteor impact, Ski mountain, etc.

I'm not religious but I found the Chapel of Holy Cross to be pretty scenic. Short hike up to it or you can pay a guy to hop on a golf cart. The views are pretty awesome. Other than that, shopping for some odd things. I would go up to Flagstaff. If you do, make sure you drive 89A. There is some good fishing along the road.

you can go to crystal shops. I think there's a brewery there too. Id probably avoid Sedona and just go to Flagstaff or Williams.

Bring your patience, or at least have it handy. January might not be too bad as it'll be winter there, versus two hours south for our "perfect" season. Our other season is "oven."

During April to November, it's a hawt mess there due to the number of visitors and the roads not being able to accomodate the increased traffic.

Post an update on your visit if you are so inclinded.

Sometimes you have to look past the bad to see and enjoy the good. It's a beautiful place to be and to see. Kind of like dealing with Yosemite or the Grand Canyon, the crowds can suck but there's beauty to be seen.

Observatory in Flagstaff is cool, we caught a snow storm at Grand Canyon and watched it clear off, was amazing,and so was the drive in the snow back down the mountain.

It’s beautiful country, that’s what attracts the hippies with crystals. Lots of outside activities.

I second most of the things said above to do. It’s an amazing area.

lots of trails to hike or bike. food to eat.

my wife and i did a 17 mile mountain bike ride loop that was "intermediate" but they must have averaged the total trail to come up with that rating. at one point there was a sign at a fork that said <- Difficult - Extreme -> like uh, is there a third option? MTB Project has an app and you can download trails for the area. i think that was the Two Fence - Outer Limits Loop. most of the trails are hiking and biking.

the next day we just hiked some semi-strenuous trail up a mountainside. if you pick some of the harder routes, it weeds out most of the tourists. bring lots of water. it's dry. sunny. and very dry. and sunny. might even be warm.

if you've rented a car there's Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. if you're heading out from Wisconsin just sitting in the sun will probably be pretty enjoyable way to spend the time. we were down there in december 2020 and the sunshine was a nice break from MT winter....
