SE Oregon Elk- First Time

My buddy and I have drawn the High Desert Elk tag in southeast Oregon this year. I have been on a couple late season elk hunts in Montana while in school, but Oregon is completely new to me. Done some map research and have found some places to scout in the Malheur and Owhyee Units. There doesn't seem to many places to get far from roads (going by mapped roads). Season is October 28-November 3.

What should I be looking for habitat-wise? Plan on keeping an eye for water sources. I'm not sure what kind of feed/cover is preferable in these areas.

Just sitting over them? That wasn't my preferred method but may be what works? I've seen people say similar things on other forums I've read.

Elk in that country are definitely drawn to agriculture. Find some public land adjacent to it and setup and spot from there.
