Was recently through SD and got to thinking it might be fun to hunt whitetails on the east side. Reading the regs it looks like NR can buy a license after all the residents draw. I couldn't find any info on odds of being able to pick up an east river buck tag. Is it a total crap shoot or is it a good chance?

I don’t think NR’s have any chance drawing a halfway decent tag ERD unless maybe you have some private land access and find a county with leftovers.

That's what it looks like. I looked up draw results but hard to see if leftover tags are available

I just bought points for my kid and I for the next year or two. Seems you need about two points to draw. Hunting in Montana has gone to so I'm wanting to hunt with my buddy in sodak. Be way better than elk hunting here!

I'd just like to hunt for another whitetail buck beyond what I can hunt here in Montana.
Hunted a place in Nebraska back in 07 which was just a trespass fee. I can't seem to find any info on that place anymore.

NR wont get an er rifle deer tag they will be all gone and if they arent they are really crappy tags. Wr you have a chance but deer numbers are as bad as i have seen since the winter of 97. Mule deer numbers are as bad as my father in law can remember and he has lived on the river his whole life. If we dont get some snow or really wet spring I could see next summer ehd and blue tongue being really bad

Kind of what I gathered. Not really interested in west river so I'll probably look to Nebraska . Thanks for the info.

Both are about the same your hunting prairie whitetails. Grew up east river now live right in the middle if i have to say the bigger whitetails i have shot and seen are all west river. Er once you get away from the river you either drive section lines or sit in blinds both not what i really like to do
