Looking at leasing a piece of ground for archery season next year on the White River in South Dakota. It appears to setup pretty good for archery. Decent amount of alfalfa on the piece, with corn and alfalfa just across the river on the adjoining neighbors piece. Fire burned about 20% of it last year , but thats not a real big deal in my opinion. While i have hunted West river WT in a couple different areas, i have not hunted the White River area specifically. How is the hunting in that area? Quality bucks? WT population still pretty good?
Thx

Buddies rifle hunted there last weekend and deer numbers are down they shot some average 140 ish bucks. I know blue tongue and ehd ran through pretty good a couple years ago. Overall statewide numbers deer wise are way down.

It's an area prone to EHD (what part of the state isn't anymore). A former co-worker of mine used to have some family land along the white; They shot great deer every year it seemed like; but they consistently had issues with poaching/trespass. Something to consider if you pick up the lease and are placing cameras.
