Highly suggest you avoid the Oban at all costs. Kinda like looking through swaro glass if you know what I mean. All others will be rated against it, if not suck.
I'm very interested. I found a chart and Oban 14 is almost right in the middle between smoky and delicate & light and rich. Copy the Swaro metaphor.

Glenlivet 18 for special times = funerals and weddings.
Chivas gets a strong nod and have really started enjoying Macallan 12.
Also keep Bulliet and Makers Mark around. Crown Royal in the freezer makes for a smooth shot.

Glenlivet 18 is good. I have some but don't sip it much.

Oban 14.... My local Costco usually has a good supply a few times a year and I stock up for around $49 a bottle. I like many different ones but Oban 14 should be a staple for any Scotch drinker.

I love peat. Lagavulin 16 and Talisker 18 are two of my favorites. It is a tast that grows on you. But, as you don't like it...

You should try Oban 14 and Dalwhinnie 15.

Glenlivet 12 is a good mainstay for a decent price.

P.S. No one is a scotch snob unless they drink it neat at room to body temp. Drinking it any other way is an abomination. A drop or two of water is allowed, more if it is cask strength (about 120-150 proof).

I am surprised that there is no mention of Aberlour 12 and 16. Personally I prefer Balvenie 12 but the Aberlours are close. Also a touch more budget friendly.
If I am just looking to get the job done, I have a bottle of monkey shoulder

I would normally suggest Talisker 10, but sounds like you don’t like peat. Talisker is not overly peated though, makes for a good entry point to the Islay scotches

Avoiding peat, Glen Grant 12 (not Grants) is good as is the Aberlour 12, previously mentioned, or Aberlour A’bunahd. The Singleton of Glendullen is a good cheap “daily” single malt. If you’re open to blends, I enjoy the ones from Mossburn, they have both an Islay (peated) and a Speyside (no peat). Monkey Shoulder is a decent cheap blend too.

if you have not looked at the Distiller app/website, can be helpful for finding scotch that suits your palette. Nothing worse than coming home to find you unknowingly bought a peat monster when you don’t like peat.
