Yes ignoring basic gun saftey is the best way to make sure a rifle holds zero. It's becoming the rokslide way sounds like something a fudd would do.

Can you explain this to me as well. How is a gun falling over failing basic gun saftey?

I think it's referencing "checking zero" by shooting at a coyote after the rifle tipped over, disregarding the fact that it's a proven scope, in proven rings, properly assembled, on a known accurate rifle. I think that's more of the "Rokslide way", one more data point that NF can take a bump.

Why would you leave a rifle un-attended on tri pod elevated that high? set it down on the ground go set up and then set your rifle up. This is not that hard to figure out. Especially if the winds are high but even with out winds I wouldnt set my rifle up like that and leave it un-attended

We will just have to disagree on what constitutes basic gun safety. It falling over on a tripod IMO doesnt violate basic gun saftey as long as the below rules were followed.

Always treat the gun as if it's loaded. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it.

But sure seams like always treat the gun as if it's loaded is a good starting point to prevent this situation....would you leave a loaded gun un-attended and elevated with the chance to fall over?

It's doesn't matter if it's loaded or not the number one rules is treat every rifle if it's loaded.....

It's treat every gun as if it's loaded until you personally verify that it is clear. Otherwise gun shops, and shot show, etc would be a giant violation of gun safety.

Sorry I let you down again Dad. I promise I won’t do it again.

Gun was 100% unloaded and the barrel pointed the opposite direction, as I was walking up wind to set the call out. I was solid in the steady wind at the time but a big gust came up and the gun blew over. Had I not positioned the barrel away from the direction I was walking, I don’t think it would have acted as a sail and blew over. Shit happens and I’m not in the business of breaking my stuff on purpose.

I’ve left my gun on the tripod hundreds of times before in similar conditions but this was a first.

At least I know my system holds zero though.
