Are there hard definitions for the style, and usage of rifle scopes?
Competition
Tactical
Hunting

I am looking for something that I can use across multi disciplines.
My primary use would be hunting and target shooting.
I don't think I will ever get lucky enough to be able to perform competition, PRS, etc., but who knows?

Thanks.

I'd suggest that a mid-magnification, mid-weight, very reliable scope with good enough glass is as close to a do-all scope that there is. I'd have FFP, great glass, a useful reticle, and capped or locking windage as near-requirements for me. Illuminated reticle is a plus (depending on reticle may be necessary)

4-16 ATACR
3.6-18 Mk5
4.5-18 LRHS/LRTS
3.5-18 Kahles
Maybe the new Vortex LHT FFP? Time will tell on reliability.
4-32 NX8 (though it has a reputation for suffering optically as a result of trying to stuff an 8x mag range into such a compact/short package).

This is not an exhaustive list, but certainly some contenders (in my mind). I'd be hesitant to do a 5x or 6x bottom end if it's intended to be a do-all hunting scope as one of its roles. That is of course flexible, a 5 to 20 with wide field of view, great reticle, and forgiving eye box is probably a better close and fast scope than a 4 to 32 with narrow field of view, super skinny reticle, and finicky eye box if something jumps up at 50 yards.

Honestly I think the bigger question is what kind of rifle are you putting this on that can do all these things? That to me is where competing interests between the different categories really start to butt heads with each other.

No.

I filled several tags with this scope last year

Ive dialed this scope out to 1,000 yards on a 20” 308 on many occasions.

Every optic is a compromise….even Zero Compromise. Certain features will help achieve certain goals. With rifle scopes, generally you get what you pay for.

If you’re looking for an optic, set your budget, figure out how far you wanna shoot, which cartridge, what sizes targets, in what conditions, and with which features.
Is that old Razor the one that was an exclusive for one of the retailers?

No. That was a plain jane 3-15 razor LH available everywhere. Tracked great, held zero great, and filled a whole bunch of tags. Had several at one point, but own zero now.
Loved the reticle in that one that didn't have the upper post. I want one for my coyote blaster.

I have ran a ton of my PRS comp scopes on hunting rifles but none have needed the be crazy light weight. After i started to get some more dedicated hunting rifles you start to realize how much those giant 5-25 scopes can weigh. My current go to on hunting rifle is an older s&b pmii 4-16x42 single turn. It’s been a tank and you can see in the pic the size differnce between a couple of others i run.
