Hey everyone,

Wanting some opinions on glass for my 6.5 Grendel AR. Bench and future varmint gun. Sold an old Vortex Diamondback with no exposed turrets & simple duplex.

Not really picky. I’m a simple man & used to SFP, MOA. Not a huge fan of Christmas tree reticles but I don’t mind branching out, either. Tend to just dial than do big holdovers. Picked up a Veracity PH for my hunting rifle and love it. Really looking for a mid-range (<$600) optic, but might could be persuaded else wise. Something decent for the price. Don’t care too much about weight.

If it helps I get discounts through ExpertVoice & GovX with Vortex & Athlon. Never used Athlon before. I was leaning toward a Venom or Helos BTR Gen 2 (Expert Voice has the 4-20 for ~$420). They also have an Ares ETR 3-18 on outlet for $500. I just have no experience with any of those optics.

Thanks guys.

I've used the Arken EPL4, SWFA 3-9, SWFA 6x fixed, and Vortex Venom on my Grendel's.

The SWFA 3-9 fit my hunting needs best and that's what I run today. If not the 3-9 I'd be running the 6x still. But I didn't mind the Arken or Vortex either, just that SWFA is more robust.

With your discount I'd go Venom 3-15. If not look at SWFA.

I’ve been using a Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-15x42 with MOA Center Dot reticle on my 6.5 Grendel. It’s an illuminated SFP scope with exposed turrets. I like it so much I just bought a second for a 308 bolt gun.

I would say this is a about the best I've found for a longer barrel 6.5. I use this exact version with the 56mm tube on my 6.5cm and the 3-9 version on my 12" 6.5G.

I currently run an Arken EPL4 4-16 with a non christmas tree reticle. It is a FFP so that would be a little different than your used to but overall a great scope!

I’ve been using the swfa 3-9 on my Grendel for several years (but it is a bolt gun, not AR). I think it’s about the perfect match for the Grendel with how far you can realistically shoot one. I’ve taken mine out to 1000 yards on steel and ~300 on deer.

Don’t be afraid of FFP and mils. There’s a reason why everyone prefers this setup.

As someone pointed out in another thread; it doesn’t matter mils vs moa if you never convert it to inches. You don’t need to use inches at all. Just measure in the reticle and make that adjustment directly in the scope.

With all of your posted options you seem to be looking at a lot of magnification. It’s fine if that’s your preference; but a lot of guys here have gravitated towards lower power scopes. I personally feel that 9x is plenty to make shots at 1000 yards; I have buddies that like 18x to shoot woodchucks at 150. All personal preference.

Agreed. Switched from the EPL4 4-16 over to the SWFA 3-9.
