Another scope, recommendation post hooray.

TL: DR -
Budget: $600 (used is fine and I can get first responder/.mil pricing for a lot of manufacturers)
2.5x or lower minimum mag
Don’t need more than 10x and my shots are usually around 6-8x for longer shots
Prefer ffp but don’t need it
Clear glass
Illuminated reticle is nice but not necessary as most of my shots seem to happen in the afternoon before sundown.

I recently sold my previous hunting set up because it was totally overkill for the hunting I do.

Right now I’m using a hand me down Winchester model 70 in .270 win and am working up some 110gr TTSX loads for east coast whitetail under 300y. The scope that’s on it is marginal at best so I’d like to get something a little nicer.

My used case is East Coast Whitetail, both in timber and an open fields. My shots are usually 200 yards and in, but I feel confident shooting out to 300. I prefer FFP. But it isn’t mandatory. I’d prefer to keep the weight down a bit and have a low end magnification of 2X for closer shots. I don’t need exposed turrets, especially at the distances I’m shooting.

Thanks

Trijicon Credo 3-9x40 can be had for ~500. Slightly off your criteria list at 3x and SFP but it's a super nice scope and only weighs like 17oz.

It does have an illuminated reticle which I didn't really think I needed but it's definitely come in handy on a few first/last light shots.

And for SFP, I'm really only using the hash marks when I have it set to 9x anyways so don't see the need for FFP at this mag range and at those hunting distances.

Ditto on the Credo. Don’t forget rings and rail. The good one will run you another $150. Warne MT’s.

I just got a new trijicon acupoint for just a bit over $600. I really like the battery free illumination. I havent had the time to do any testing on it yet. Mine is 3-9 (about 13oz) but they make a 2.5-10?.Wasn't worth the extra weight difference for me.
I have a few older Leupold 2-7 models that I have had zero issues with and used ones are relatively inexpensive. I won't even consider the newer leupolds but my old 2-7's have been run hard and are still going.

There are 3 scope series I would suggest you take a look at:

Sightron S1 Series & Sightron S-TAC Series Riflescopes

GPO Centuri Series

If you can stretch slightly then the Steiner Predator 4 2.5-10x42 - E3 at $699.99

The Maven RS.2 2-10x38 seems about made for you. Simple setup, only 12.4 ozs., and $550. It is SFP and no illumination.
