I'm putting a rifle together and was curious to hear from individuals who have hunted with Kawdy Outfitters in Northern B.C.

Moose hunt first and if things go well, goat hunt after. Based on your real time experience up there, what scope magnification would you recommend hunting with in that particular landscape? I may use a 300 WinMag or 7 PRC. Anything else you might want to recommend up there would be welcome to hear as well.

I'm going up there in mid September on a horse pack trip.

I had a similar hunt with Tahltan outfitters in Northern BC and I had a Swarovski 3.5-18 on my 300 wsm and that seemed fine to me. There’s the potential for long range shooting but I don’t think you would typically have to shoot past 500 yards and more than likely half that distance.

Dustin’s area from this video boarders Kawdy if I’m not mistaken. Might give you an idea of the kind of terrain you’ll probably be in, the shooter was glad he had a setup I think.

Thanks for attaching this video Decker9. 600 plus was one heck of a well placed shot.

Not specifically your hunt area, but I've gone on 6 moost hunts, 5 of them my own.

I've been lucky enough to have drawn 2 Montana Shiras moose tags, and I took a friend into the same area that I shot my bulls where he filled his bull moose tag. All 3 of those bulls were one shot kills at less than 100 yds. I shot my 2 bulls with my .30 gibbs shooting 180 gr Nosler Partition bullets, and using a 3-9x40 Redfield scope, set on 3 or 4 power. Larry shot his bull with his 7mm Rem mag and I don't know what scope.

I did a moose/caribou unt in Newfoundland using my .300 Weatherby and it's Leupold 4.5-14x40 scope, but we didn't see any caribou, and the 3 bull moose that we saw were smaller than my Montana Shiras moose, so I passed on shooting any of them.

Then I did a brown bear/moose hunt in SW Alaska using my Remington .375 Ultra Mag with it's Leupold Freedom 3-9x40 scope. I got a beautiful bear, but we didn't see any moose.

Two years ago I hunted a Canadian moose in northern Alberta with my .300 Wby. After two failed moose hunts and 4 days of not seeing any moose on that hunt, I shot the first bull that we saw with a 180 gr Nosler Partition bullet. It was less than a 100 yd shot and I had my Leupold 4.5-14x40 scope set at 4.5 power. Dinner last night with some of his burger tasted great.
