Getting into the riffle game, mostly a bow hunter but want to extend my season and have more opportunities. I’m getting a tikka t3 300wsm that I’ll hunt with how it is this season and eventually send it to hells canyon armory for a new stock, barrel, and trigger.

I’m debating between the pst gen 2 and the Leupold vx5-hd. I like the weight of the leupold, but unsure about the cds since I’ll be hunting a variety of terrain. Cds worth it or just learn to use MILS, or moa (undecided on that as well) or get the cds turrets?

If you have experience with both scopes which do you prefer and why?

Thanks.

On that light Tikka, definitely the vx5 would be my choice. Pst too big and heavy for that setup. Leupold will have better glass, and lots better in low light.

I really like my CDS dials. Personally I think the VX3i line is a great value and a very light package. 3.5-10x40 or 4.5-15x40 take your pick. VX5s are sweet scopes but there is added bulk and weight there. I do think the price tag on the 5s is reasonable. Just wish they made a 1” 40mm.

I'm now want to buy some model from smart scopes. I found suitable variants from ATN manufacturer(link), did either of you have experience with them? I read many good reviews about this brand and features from these devices are great. How do you think it is good variant?

I have both scopes, but wouldn't consider myself an expert by any means. Just the avg Hunter. My PST is on Browning 300wsm and the Leupold on a Tikka t3 lite in 6.5. I like the Leupold better. The size and weight is the biggest difference. The PST just seems bigger and heavier than I like in a hunting scope. The turrets in my opinion are better on the Leupold. Little bigger dial, nice zero stop and I like having the lock button on the turret. It hasn't happened, but I always fear the turet on my PST will get bumped. Both are great scopes. I use MOA turrets today vs custom dials. It's a little more flexible platform.

Just recently posted on a decision between the same two optics for a Hells Canyon long range 7mm mag. Probably going with the Leupold as well due to weight and simplicity for hunting. If I was a more experienced long range range shooter and spent more time punching paper, I would have gone with the Vortex.
