Scope for my Henry 45-70

I have a Leupold 3-9x40 on my Marlin 45-70 and it's fine, but I could easily drop down to a 2-7 or 1-5 and probably would work better for the 30-50 yard shots I'm typically using it at. Killed a buck this year at 100 just fine and only had the scope on 3X.

I have a Bushnell elite 1.5-4.5x 3200 Firefly on my Marlin 1895. The gun isn't practical past 200 yards, but it's really good for shorter range as I think all can agree. Go with the lower magnification for best FOV. The high magnification craze is way overdone. It does not take 9x to harvest an animal at 200 yards lol. Most guys leave their scope on the lowest magnification as they should until the shot presents. 45-70 does not need 9x, ever. Nor does it take 14 or 15 x to do it at 300 yards. Just a way to sell more scopes. That's reality based on my experience and not armchair discussion.

A vintage scope would be pretty cool on a levergun imo. There’s a lot of good old scopes out there that would be good for inside 200. I saw a website called vintagegunscopes.com that restores old scopes.
