Looking to upgrade scope on my 280AI. Anyone have any real world experience with scope VX-5HD 3-15x44 CDS-ZL2 Side Focus Wind-Plex? Thank you for your input.

I have this scope on my 6.5PRC i am happy with it, I have the custom dial and it is spot on.

I used to be a big fan of Leupolds, but had some issues with "wandering zeros", and eventually learned that not only was it not just me, but that they're just not very rugged anymore. It pisses people off to hear this, but take a look at these threads to see if it matters to you:

Possibly the best eye box I’ve looked thru. Simple scope. Very clear. And that’s about all the good I can come up with. Chased zero on a 300wm when I dialed. Stayed true on a smokeless muzzleloader I have but never dialed with that scope, I had 2 at one time. Read thru the evals, and the head scratcher moments started making sense and ditched them.

Thanks keystone112. I don't like the reticle.
That scope with the standard MQ reticle would probably suit you better. Cheaper than the Leupold, and substantially more reliable.

For whatever the internet is worth, I have experience with both and am not parroting what others say. I won’t buy any Leupold (unless they make a durable one)

Thank you everyone for your input. I own one Leopold. It's over 25 years old on a 270. Has never lost zero. This is why I looked at Leopold now. Plus, I really like the Wind-Plex. Have shot a lot with mildot. It sounds like things have changed at Leopold. Aother reason is I have over $400 in Cabelas points. Have been retired for a while. At this time Cabelas is the best option to upgrade scope. I will go to Cabelas after Christmas to checkout all their options.

I had a VX5-HD with the duplex reticle break while on a hunting trip to Utah. The windage went off by 12 MOA. Then it sprung back the other direction by 12 MOA. It wouldn't track reliably after this malfunction. Sent it in for warranty repair to Leupold and then passed it onto someone on eBay. Many similar anecdotes could be found if you look for them.

It was very nice to look through. It is relatively lightweight in design. Unfortunately, the lightweight assembly isn't conducive to durability.

I prefer either the Maven RS1.2 2.5-15 or SWFA 3-15 of the options I have tried since then.

I may be contrary to the norm, but I have traveled with mine quite a bit and dialed without any issues. That said, there are lots of solid options out there.
