Scope Bumper Scope caps

Got a set in today for an RS1.2.

Don’t realize they were 3D printed. Curious to see how they hold up long term. Fit was nice and snug, don’t think they’ll slip off like my usual vortex caps.

Any pictures of how they fit? Did their recommended sizes work fine?

Yup recommended sizing worked great. Took a little wiggling and jiggling to get them started and lined up properly. Once lined up and started they were a snug push to get fully seated on the optic. Snug enough they’ll be interesting to try and pull off if the time ever comes.

I will echo above the cap portion is a little gritty feeling. Curious to see how they smooth up with use. They’re a little odd to get closed and snapped back into position.

I assume that gritty feeling is just a function of being 3D printed. I wonder if you could buff them just a hair. That's always been my biggest complaint about 3D printed items. I want a nice surface that looks and feels finished. Usually they're a little rough like you mentioned.

My scope bumpers have broken in with a week or so of good use, I don't notice any gritty feeling when opening or closing anymore. I definitely prefer them over any other scope cap or cover so far other than the Leupold Aluminas, time will tell if they take the top spot.

Not to knock these, but it is kinda crazy how much 3d printed plastic parts are going for.

I agree in principle, but when a pair of butler creek caps (or similar) lasts maybe a season (or a hunt) without falling off or breaking, the cost becomes more reasonable.

I would like to see them add a small thumb tab to help with releasing them. Maybe with more practice (or once my thumbnail finishes growing back) it'll be a faster stowing motion.

You get a season out of Butler Creeks caps? I don’t think any ones from the last 10-15 years have lasted longer than 3-4 days of real use.

That's why I said or a hunt. I have family members who have had them for a few years with 1 hunt a season and few to no issues. I have them on 0 rifles of my own, I'm not sure they would even last a good day on my main ranch rifle.

Oh, for sure, I’ll never buy BC caps again.

But even those came out before the days of anyone being able to just 3D print plastic easily.

There’s nothing stopping someone from recreating these and making them for $5.

I’m still buying a pair, but I’m just thinking out loud.

@Formidilosus how has the durability of the rubber retention bands been? I see they can be easily replaced for a $1 on their website. Have you needed to carry spares?

Interestingly on my last hunt I lost one of them. Not sure how, but guessing strapped to the outside of the pack and dragging it through nasty brush. Both of my sets have been used extremely heavily for months and that is the first issue. I will get a couple extras and have them in my bino harness.

Id much rather lose a $1 o ring and quickly replace it than have the stupid cap break and be unusable for the remainder of my hunt.

Thanks for the info
