Just dropped my daughter off at college in Lamar, figured with some ties to SE Colorado id figure out if it was worth sneaking down for a season? I know an outfitter out of limon and he’s got a ton of ground locked up. Unfortunately he is tough to get in with. Is that the name of the game in SE CO? Seems to be a decent amount of public land.

Name of the game in SE Colorado is pay a fortune for access to great bucks on private land. There is not a a decent amount of public land that actually holds deer.

I guess naming areas is diif. than posting units or areas numbers?

I don’t feel that posting a picture of a townie deer that’s been dead for years, ate out of backyard bird feeders and was affectionately nicknamed by the neighborhood grannies is going to blow up a unit. Pic/name dropping a 30 incher in a publicly accessible area is a different situation than missing my turn to Taco John’s and snapping a ditch pic of a buck on my U-turn in city limits.

I live in a different area but a similar situation where the combination of good genetics, nutrition, and incredibly competitive access kicks out a quality age and trophy class of deer - I think zrodwyo hit the nail on the head above.

Had a friend hunt down there on private. he said the lack of deer was surprising.
He was after mule deer and not WTs .

I just find it odd that we can't mention units numbers but specific areas are ok, that's all, lol.

4 separate units touch Lamar. I wouldn’t consider that very specific especially considering the lack of accessible public land around there.

Pretty flat out that way. Some places look like a pancake. Some truly monster bucks on private. If you wanted a real monster and have the spare change, you could do a lot worse.
