Schnee's dumps OutDry for SympaTex

Just got a long-awaited pair of Beartooth II in the mail today and was very surprised to see Schnee's has switched waterproof membranes. I've only heard great things about OutDry and have never heard of SympaTex at all. After some brief surfing I've learned very little aside from it's a German company and they have a little farther to go on their English website. [That's not meant to be a slight on the material, btw.]

I did call Schnee's this evening and spoke to someone that also had just learned of the switch. She said it was because this membrane now allows their boots to be rebuilt.

Anyone have any additional insight and/or experience with SympaTex?

I have a pair of lite hikers with the stuff. Breaths extremely well and I've never gotten wet feet.

The bundeswehr has used it in their wet weather gear for a good amount of time. I have the tops and bottoms that I traded a pair of oakley's for when I was stationed in Germany, and wore hunting up in the mountains. They've kept me dry in some gnarly showers. It's good stuff. Can't speak about the stuff in boots though, sorry.

Gronell didn’t dump outdry. Outdry isn’t being sold to third party any more as it appears across the board. Stupid move IMO. But glad to see another goretex competitor being used instead

Hello Rebelblue. First, thank you for choosing Schnee's! Sorry for the surprise, I was unaware the Sympatex version of the boot was shipping now too. The decision was actually made after much testing. Sympatex has been really great as far as Breathability, waterproofness and durability. I think you'll be really happy with the boots!

Also, not sure who you spoke with about the boot now being able to be rebuilt, but all of our boots can be rebuilt as we now offer a full "Re-craft" where your boot is completely taken apart, re-lasted and re-built from the ground up.
