Curious if anybody is holding off of scheduling or booking their hunt due to potential additional travel restrictions?
I had to eat a hunt this spring due to COVID travel restrictions and am contemplating scheduling a trip this fall, just curious if anyone else is considering holding off due to the potential resurgence of COVID or if I’m nuts. Thanks.

I just booked a cat hunt for two us for this January. It is what its is and I plan on taking things as they come..
Alaska is still on for me in about 7 weeks, KS in Nov. The only change so far is I cant get into Canada, so those plans are on hold.

Hunting in both KS and TX in December and then hitting Mexico in January. Planning to drive for all three just to avoid any potential headaches around flying. If something gets canceled I'll work with the outfitters (friends with all three) to see what my options are for rebooking.

Flying to Colorado tomorrow to scout for a week...see how that goes. Then driving to wyoming in Oct. And back to New Mexico in November for hunts. Hopefully it will not get so crazy they don't let me in...

My Alaska hunt is probably not going to happen. Work isn’t going to let me go. I’m in healthcare, and they are afraid of us traveling and coming back. Meanwhile western Wyoming is inundated with tourists, and I can’t leave. Hell, might push me out of healthcare, too.

How on earth can your job tell you where you can and can't travel just because you're in healthcare? I am as well, just fyi.

My GF is an RN in our biggest area hospital. They aren’t telling her she can’t travel but they’re mandating a 2 week quarantine upon return from about 15+/- states and all foreign countries. The quarantine is unpaid of course unless you use vacation time.

I have 2 out of state hunts this fall. They can try to close state borders and I’ll still plan to go.
The Gov’t (both state and Federal) lost a lot of credibility with the testing debacle, the masks don’t work/masks are required, the arresting people for paddle boarding but yet turning a blind eye to the protests/riots with 1000s of people.
I’m going hunting...

It might come down to what state you live in if further restrictions are put in place. With majority of cases in a few states, places may just ban certain states from entrance.

They didn't just lose most credibility, they've lost it all.

I'm planning on going. If they put travel restrictions in place, I'll still go. I live in upstate SC and I've never seen so many New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Ohio tags driving around. There's supposed to be a 14 day quarantine for out-of-state visitors, but I'm on a job site with 1,000 people working from all over the country and no one does it. I'm no conspiracy theorist, but the whole thing seems ridiculous at this point. I personally know 4 people who have tested positive. 3 of the 4 had no symptoms. 1 person tested negative twice while they were sick and then tested positive after he was feeling better.

I have a hunt in Alaska this fall and a hunt in Greenland setup for next spring. I'll take a smoking deal for 2021 if one comes along. Canada is the only place that I would be cautious on for this year, and next spring. I know a couple of guys that have been in and out of Africa in the last couple of weeks, and all went smoothly for them. It took some extra planning, but they did their hunts.

I'd rather be ready to go and have a last minute issue than have nothing planned. If a date gets pushed, I have fall back plans.

I'm more than happy to mask up, suit up, get a test, whatever to enjoy the outdoors and hunt. Those things pale in comparison to the miles of training hikes, running, lifting, agonizing over which camo pattern I look best in for the photos, and whether or not I need a new rifle for the trip.

Jeremy

Disclaimer: I need a new rifle whether I have a trip or not.

It amazes me that folks are willing to put so much money on the line. It's an election year and the powers that be are stirring stuff up, betting we have more lockdown and pain this fall.

For me it isn't about catching the virus, it is about the hassles caused by the politicians and potential travel restrictions.

I'm gonna try to put some venison in the freezer as quickly as possible this fall.

I’m going elk hunting. I’m planning to fly. If they nix that, I’ll drive my happy ass right across the country and self quarantine in a spike camp.
