Scent Control from home to field.

Hello, I'm newer to the forums and appreciate the good knowledge shared and intend to do the same. Knowing an Elks nose, I do everything possible to smell less like a foreign item in their home. My brother uses a locked down plastic tote and keeps his Sitka hunting clothing in there and only puts it on at trialhead and removes at trail head. He has added natural foliage from the general area he hunts in with the clothing. What are you guys doing to effectively minimize getting busted via scent?

When I'm treestand hunting for whitetail - I am religious about scent control. When I'm hunting Elk on the ground, moving around, sweating - I don't even worry about it beyond trying to keep my gear clean using scent-free soap before I start my hunt. There's just no way to stay scent free on an active hunt like that, so I play the wind.

Use the wind. That seems to work real well for me.

Thanks guys. I agree that there is no substitute to knowing your wind and thermals and that it's #1 over anything with elk, and human scent is not even close to 100% concealable, I do feel that with all of the scents in my rig from oil, armor all, etc etc etc that it would be somewhat effective to keep hunting threads exposed to just fresh air if possible. Always trying to be as effective of a hunter as possible and am open to other opinions. Thanks again.

I agree with the above reply regarding whitetail vs elk. I was all of my gear in scent free detergent and myself with scent free soap. After one day in the mountains, all of that is over with though. Sweat and grime take over. No way to deal with it then and playing the wind continues to be the only option. Its actually a relief to me not to have to worry so much about scent control in the elk woods.
