The coarser blades from Silky are great for wood, suck for bone. I keep a fine blade in my kill kit; the extra blade weighs 0.2 oz.

I’m using a similar setup

Fine tooth 170mm silky blade

The total setup is a few ounces and works well on meat, bone, and wood.

I think bone density has already been discusses in this thread. Game animals tend to have a denser bone than cattle or other farm raised animals. Cutting them requires a finer tooth blade.

That being said the fine silky blade works amazingly on vertebrae, skull, and ribs. The coarse (wood) blade I used to have on my custom silky worked for ribs but it was chattery. The Wyoming saw is definitely nicer for cutting through shanks, but you can get away with the silky saw.

I’ve used four different bonesaws on hunts with friends this fall.
1. Wyoming saw
2. Short fine silky
3. Long coarse silky
4. Gerber exo mod
Everyone loves the 3d printed 170mm silky with a fine blade. The only person who didn’t want to swap to that setup is a moose hunter who will never give up his Wyoming saw.

I've got a silky saw I use for trimming shooting lanes whether that be chasing whitetails in a saddle or turkey hunting in the spring. It's fairly large but fits well enough in a day pack. I toted it out to CO on a 9 day elk hunt and am trying to get things fine tuned in the weight department. I like the idea of the pocketboys with a fine tooth blade in it for butchering and cutting wood in a pinch. Its nice to know that there are weight saving options utilizing 3D printing, I'll have to take a look at those!

Agawa Boreal is such a champ. Sydney Rancher blade rips through wood

Can add to the praise for agawa boreal. Compact, sturdy, use whatever blade you want. Keep one in my car for emergency down trees on road too
