Savage cheaping out. Very disappointing.

Yeah , I disagree . I sold my Savage because the metal magazines were trash and wouldn't feed . It's a known issue with their mags , so any change has to be for the better .
It was an Ultralite 28 Nosler , very accurate with the right load , but basically a single shot , it just would not feed . And I bought two extras , same thing . Sold the rifle .

My ultralite in 6.5 CM feeds great. I have done several mag dumps with some of the fast paced hunts we do on timber company properties, and I've never had an issue with the 6.5. Must be something with the geometry of 28 nosler doesn't work well in that mag/gun.

Yes , I think it is only select gauges , my 7RM or my .243 has no troubles , just the 28 N .
It was actually a 300 WM mag , at least that what it said on the side .
Plus it would never hold three , two rounds only . I talked to Savage , they were not much help .
I tried to adjust the new mags and made it worse , so I gave up and traded it in .

Nothing to tweak (or needed to be tweaked) with the plastic mags and it immediately cured the feeding issue for one of the 6 Arc rifles that took multiple metal magazines to one that worked. The plastic ones fed much smoother as well.

I think you just got one with a bad spring.

I have a savage ultralight that I like. The original stock/mags were cheap and flimsy looking, but they did work.

I have been looking for a good replacement stock and mag alternative for years. Finally there is a good one available. Here is what I did, and man does it make for a much nicer rifle/mag combo.

Stocky's carbon stock. I got the blem sporter for $199.
And MDT CORE AICS bottom metal. I bought with a coupon for $120. It is flush and the MDT AICS flush fit 3 rd mags are perfect for hunting.

That’s good news. I’m waiting on a replacement from Savage. The metal mag in my Axis 6arc is garbage.

6 arc seems it can be finicky to feed in a bolt gun. My gunsmith told me he's about done building any of the arc rounds in a bolt action gun because of it.

I don't own a Tikka and don't have any desire to own a Tikka. But I do have a Savage 64 in pieces on a shelf that will probably never be put back together 'cause the POS just isn't worth the effort and I have seen my fair share of MKII metal magazines split at the seams
