This Savage 99A in .250-3000 was my first deer rifle. My grandpa bought it for me in a pawnshop. Killed my first blacktail with it in '94 at age 9 but soon moved on to bolt-actions. This old girl sat in the safe for a decade.

When I hit adulthood, say 19 or 20, I brought it back out and tried everything to get it to shoot well. Nothing worked, so it sat in the safe for another decade plus before I dropped major coin and had McGowen rebarrel it in 2018 with an 18 inch tube. I went threaded of course for a future point where I'd screw on a can.

Recently, I added this Banish Backcountry and thought I'd share how she looks. I'm not sure I've seen another suppressed 99. I wouldn't necessarily suggest chopping and threading an original, but for a rebarrel, it's a cool way to go. Can'd 99.jpeg

That is a great looking 99. I've always appreciated the straight stock rifles vs. those with pistol grips. The latter just look clunky. Did the accuracy improve with the rebarrel?

Nice the old man just picked up a 243. He has not shot it yet.

I had a holy grail 284 about 25 years ago. It did not shoot, so it went down the road.

I always wanted a Sako Finnwolf (that may not be the name) in 308. Or a Winchester M88 in 358.

Yes! I love a Model 99 in general and how it changed with the times over the decades. It was ahead of its time when it was introduced, and adding a suppressor keeps that tradition going. The host rifle is a beaut and the whole package is really attractive. Does it shoot well? I bet a suppressed 250 Savage is a pussycat.

Nice, this is cool. When I first read the title I was sick that someone butchered a classic, but after reading the write-up and seeing the picture I must say it is a very good looking gun and a good way to bring an older firearm into the present without making it an abomination. Do you plan on hunting with it this year?

Very cool! I have 3 99’s and all shoot pretty well. Until I went down the suppressor road I always used my .300 Sav for elk when I rifle hunted and have thought about threading it. It’s a great condition early 50s model (steel butt and schnabel forend) and was drilled when I got it so it isn’t perfect anyway but a shorter barrel and a suppressor would be a fun elk rifle.
Saw a mint condition twin of this one on a rack in western Nebraska a couple weeks ago but it had been drilled for a receiver mount too…
