Sauer 100 - Talk me out of it

I know 3 people with them and they all say they shoot really well. The one complaint one buddy has is the length of pull is long side and since he's a shorter fellow, it really doesn't fit him that well.

I shot a new 1:10 243 Sunday. 4 factory ammo options, only 4 I could get in town.
Federal 75gr V-max
Federal 80gr JSP
Hornady 100gr interlock
Norma 100gr JSP

The Norma shot the best by a long ways.

I don’t have the Ceratech version, but at $399, I would not worry about any potential advantage. A blued rifle will do just fine in wet weather. It just needs a wiping down and light coat of oil before you store it.

I would do, and did: two-piece Burris XTR pic rails Loctite 380 bonded on, with good pic rings. The Leupold Backcountry one piece rings are solid, but you can’t vary ring spacing on them.

So far the only thing Ive been able to confirm is the talley one piece base/ring combo med set works with a 1" tube up to a 42mm objective. Not sure if that would translate across the board with a two piece set.

Plus just because something works doesn't mean it's ideal. I don't want to buy something and it's not lining up right with the cheek weld that this stock offers.

Caved and ordered a 6.5x55 blued synthetic (Canada here). Need? Def not, but life is short and guns are cool.

Not gettin the smoking deals you guys are but for what comes up to $700 USD I still think its a lot of rifle. Things cost more than they used to and guns cost more up here. Way she goes.

You guys know how to sell rifles! Kiddin...kinda. Already had an eye on them as they seem like a great platform.

My solution for the extended LOP and poor recoil pad on mine…

1) remove an inch of existing stock/butt pad with my portable bandsaw
2) fill the hollow stock with expanding foam
3) install a slip on neoprene gel filled recoil pad, medium size fits great
4) install a leather cheek riser/ammo holder on the stock to both raise the comb slightly and improve aesthetics

Late to this thread, but I bought a Sauer 100xt in 2023. .308 with a meopta meosport 3-15x50.

1st and 3rd images are 3 shot groups at 100yds with Sellier and Bellot 165gr exergy ammo.
Center group is Hornady 150gr Superformance CX.

Tack driver may be an understatement

I bought a 243 just to mess with and probably rebarrel to a fast twist 6 or 25 Creed.

run down:
21.5" 1:10 twist barrel
.685" muzzle
mag inside length 2.880"
7lb 1 Oz w/mag, no scope
8lb 14oz w/rail & SWFA 3-15 G1
Scope base screws are Rem 700 Long action spacing

I tested 6 factory ammo in 5 shot groups for a basic accuracy test. I'm going to chop & thread the barrel and repeat these tests with a suppressor later.


Norma was the best with 5 inside 1"

I am going to try several bullets tomorrow. So far I have only shot 143 eldx and 147 eldm and I was getting 1-1.25 5 shot groups. only 20 rounds through it. Not bad but I want to see if I can do better.

I am really happy with this for 399. Everything fed well to. Recoil is perfect with a suppressor. Trigger is really nice. I shot this inbetween some other training so this was just on a magpul bipod with a rear bag prone quick and in a hurry. If I have the time I may try again friday hopefully slower less rushed pace.
