My Classic XT 6.5 PRC arrived yesterday. Compared to a factory Tikka it’s a mixed bag but still an amazing deal at $450. Naked it weighs exactly 7#.

Pros vs Tikka T3X
1) actually METAL bottom metal and trigger guard
2) threaded barrel
3) flush staggered mag seems excellent thus far
4) better reverse comb stock design is superior, the almost VG is excellent, The LOP and butt pad aren’t ideal but we can work with those
5) 3 position safety


Cons vs Tikka T3X
1) bolt isn't anywhere as smooth(decent but no Tikka))
2) no dovetail for scope mounts; also, the scope mount threads are 6-40 instead of 8-40; that said the scope mount base design is cross compatible with Remington 700 LA which is nice


These are first impressions. I can’t wait to put it through the paces and spend some time with my 100. It’s really hard not to jump on the 6.5 Creedmoor for $400.

Trigger and barrel seem to be very good. The action seems decent on mine. If it shoots like people say they do it is certainly a bargain.

3) plastic safety switch; the EO reviewer was correct it seems like the latest iterations of the 100 have a plastic safety selector; previous versions of the 100 not only had a metal safety selector but safety status indicators via two white dots and a red dot to indicate “fire”
4) heavier(is this a con?); I actually want a heavier rifle for this build so it works for me but it’s always easier to add weight than remove

Trigger, barrel, and action all appear to be top notch. Nearly equal to the Tikka in this regard.

The Synthetic 100’s definitely had a metal safety selector at one time.

When I run to the store this weekend, what are the 3 bullets I should try first through this ( 6.5cm classic xt) ?

My CM has a metal safety, magnet tested. It does not have the colored position indicators or the red cocked indicator though. It’s fine though, either way doesn’t bother me one bit. $399

My current set-up:
I am looking to replace my primary whitetail hunting rifle. I currently hunt with a Bergara B14 woodsman in 7mm-08. The build quality is excellent, the rifle is accurate, bolt is slick, and the trigger is good. When I bought it, I thought I'd keep it forever, but I simply haven't fallen in love with it. It is just a little bit too heavy, and isn't nimble in the heavy stuff. I'll probably sell it to make room in the safe for its replacement.

I live in Tennessee and have the opportunity to hunt both in the woods in some heavily forested and hilly terrain (where a lightweight and handy rifle is perfect) as well as over some fields and food plots (where a 400yd shot would not be out of the question). I'm looking for a do-it-all rifle that carries well and still has enough oomph for longer shots. In terms of caliber, I'd still look to stick with some of those common mid-power calibers that are still fun to shoot at a day at the range (7-08, 6.5 Creed, 270, etc.).

If I'm hunting where shots are within 200yards I'll usually reach for my Winchester 94 30-30. It is compact, lightweight, and carries beautifully in hand. Otherwise, I default to the Bergara.

With all that being said...

The Sauer 100 has caught my eye. By all accounts it sounds like it is a great rifle. Accurate, great trigger, good bolt, good magazine capacity, and Light-ish weight. Additionally, it's widely available online under $600. Has anyone had any experience with these? Are they comfortable to carry? Is there any reason why I shouldn't consider it?

Only 1 minor thing I'd change on mine. A bit wider/flatter forend. 7rm. Very straight combed. Bbl broke in quick. Clean or fowled, impact is identical. Sub moa. Boresighted by eye and first shot was 1" over. Done.

You are correct! I just magnet tested mine and it is also metal...it felt plastic but it definitely is not. Probably going to pick up the CM at that price
